City Of Fremantle
The City of Fremantle is a local government areas of Western Australia, local government area in the south of Perth, Western Australia. The City covers an area of , and lies about southwest of the Perth central business district. History The City of Fremantle is named after Charles Fremantle, who in 1829 claimed for George IV "all that part of New Holland (Australia) which is not included within the territory of New South Wales". In 1848 a town trust was formed comprising a chairman and a committee of five. For the next twenty-three years they set about constructing roads and many public buildings with the use of convict labour. By 1870 the population of Fremantle had reached 3,796 and it was a moderately flourishing town, resulting in a move among the colonists to secure greater control of the management of their affairs. Fremantle is a Western Australian suburb located in Perth at the mouth of the Swan River, and is situated from the Perth central business district. One of the original settlements of the Swan River Colony established in 1829 is within the area known today as this suburb. Hilton, Western Australia
Hilton is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Fremantle. The suburb has an eclectic mixture of weatherboard, fibro and brick dwellings. The suburb is undergoing extensive urban renewal and recently more three and four-bedroom, two-bathroom homes have been built. Daniel Keen Congdon
Daniel Keen Congdon (August 1836 17 January 1907) was the mayor of the Municipality of Fremantle in Western Australia from 1886 to 1888. Biography Daniel Keen Congdon was born in August 1836 in Chatham, Kent to William John (18011865) and Sarah Ann née Scott (19061859). Congdon migrated to Western Australia with his parents from Kent in 1853. His father was a pharmacist and worked for the Western Australian Penal Department. On 22 December 1861 he married Jane Ainslie née Fairbairn. They had thirteen children (eight boys and five girls). In 1885 he was elected the mayor of the Municipality of Fremantle, a position in which he served for three years. He was re-elected as mayor in 1891. He was subsequently elected unanimously as the inaugural mayor of North Fremantle. He was a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council from 1892 to 1900.
