Cistercian nuns are female members of the Cistercian Order, a religious order of the Catholic Church. History The Cistercian Order was initially a male order. Cistercian female monasteries began to appear by 1125. The first Cistercian monastery for women, Le Tart Abbey, was established at Tart-l'Abbaye in the Diocese of Langres (now Dijon) in 1125, by nuns from the Benedictine monastery of Juilly, and with the cooperation of Stephen Harding, abbot of Cîteaux. Diocese Of St-Omer
The former French Catholic diocese of Saint-Omer existed from 1559 until the French Revolution. Its see at Saint-Omer, in the modern department of Pas-de-Calais, was created as a reaction to the destruction of the see of Thérouanne, by military action in the wars of the Emperor Charles V. It then became a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cambrai in 1559. By the Concordat of 1801, the diocese of Saint-Omer was united with the diocese of Arras and the diocese of Boulogne, to form an enlarged diocese of Arras. Cañas, La Rioja
Cañas is a municipality of La Rioja (Spain), La Rioja, Spain. It was the birthplace of Saint Dominic of Silos (1000-1073). The abbey of Monastery of Santa María (Cañas), Santa María de San Salvador de Cañas for Cistercian nuns was founded in this town by Lope Díaz I de Haro and his wife Aldonza in 1169 and 1170. Its wealth and power culminated during the 13th century under the abbess Urraca Díaz de Haro, between 1222 and 1262. The nuns benefited from the patronage of the Haro family until its extinction in 1322. Amasa-Villabona is a village of over 5500 inhabitants in the ''Comarcas of the Basque Country, comarca'' of Tolosaldea, Gipuzkoa province, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain.
