Nepali Cinema, also referred to as "''Nepali Chalachitra''" () is the Film industry, filmmaking industry in Nepal. This includes films in various languages of Nepal, most notably in Nepali language but also in Newar language, Newari, Maithili language, Maithili, Tamangic languages, Tamang, Bhojpuri language, Bhojpuri and Tharu languages, Tharu among others. The term ''Cinemandu'' is also used, as a portmanteau for films produced in the Nepali language while the Nepalese films produced from Kathmandu and Janakpur, Nepal, Janakpur in the Maithili language is known as ''Maithili Cinema, Mithilawood''. Both of these film industries are the largest viewing cinema of Nepal and are collectively known as Nepali Cinema. History The making of Nepalese films is said to have begun with D.B. Shanti Thatal
Shanti Thatal () is an Indian music composer and singer, known for her works in Nepali film industry. She has more than 200 songs to her credit, including music for several Nepali films. She is the first female music composer of the Nepali film industry. Personal life Thatal was born on 4 April 1938 in Darjeeling, India to father Manu Singh Thatal and mother Chandra Maya Thatal. She initially learned music under the mentorship of Shiva Prasad Singh and Bhanu Ghosh. She did her schooling at St. Teresa School, Darjeeling and went on to complete her bachelor's degree in music. Later she moved to Calcutta to learn music at Rabindra Bharati University. Darpan Chhaya () is a 2001 Nepalese romantic drama film, written and directed by Tulsi Ghimire. The film is produced by Shrawan Ghimire under the banner of Siddhanta Films. The film features an ensemble cast including Dilip Rayamajhi, Uttam Pradhan, and Niruta Singh in the lead roles, alongside Laxmi Giri, Tika Pahari, and Jeetu Nepal. Shiva Sundar Shrestha (), known professionally as Shiva Shrestha, is a Nepali actor best known for his work in action films. He is renowned as the "Action King" of Nepali cinema.
