Chŏng Sŏng
Chŏng Sŏng (; ) was a Goryeo military commander during the Second Goryeo-Khitan War. Biography In 1010, Chŏng Sŏng was the garrison commander () of Hŭnghwajin () and the director of the Ministry of Revenue (), when the Khitan Emperor Shengzong invaded Goryeo with his army of 400,000 men and laid siege to the fortress of Hŭnghwajin. Alongside Sŏbungmyŏn military inspector Yang Kyu and Yi Suhwa (), Chŏng defended the fort from the Khitan besiegers. Failing to take Hŭnghwajin, the Khitan army lifted the siege and continued going south. On March 6, 1011, Chŏng Sŏng attacked the retreating Khitans from the rear when they were halfway through the Yalu River, with many of the retreating soldiers drowning in the river. Emperor Shengzong Of Liao
Emperor Shengzong of Liao (16 January 972 – 25 June 1031), personal name Wenshunu, sinicised name Yelü Longxu, was the sixth emperor of the Khitan-led Chinese Liao dynasty and its longest reigning monarch. Conflict with the Northern Song dynasty Emperor Shengzong succeeded his father, Emperor Jingzong, at the age of 12 in 982. As he was too young to rule at the time, his mother, Empress Dowager Xiao, became the regent. Emperor Taizong of the Northern Song dynasty sought to take advantage of the situation by launching an invasion on the Liao dynasty's southern capital (present-day Beijing) in the contentious Sixteen Prefectures in 986. Three large Song armies were sent to three different strategic locations on the approach to the southern capital. Yang Kyu
Yang Kyu (; ? – March 5, 1011) was a Korean military official who served the Goryeo dynasty. He fought in the second conflict in the Goryeo–Khitan War. Biography During the reign of King Mokjong, Yang Kyu served as the director of the Ministry of Justice (). In 1010, during the Liao invasion, Yang was appointed as military inspector () of Sŏbukmyŏn. He defeated the Liao army at Hŭnghwa-jin, resisting calls to surrender, and prevented the fortress' fall. The Liao army lifted the siege and left Hŭnghwa-jin. The Liao defeated Kang Cho's 300, 000 man army at T'ongju (modern day Sonchon County). The Khitans sent No Chŏn (), a captured Goryeo official, with forged edict from Kang Cho asking Yang to surrender the fortress. Yang refused as he would only take orders from the king, not Kang. Yalu River
The Yalu River () or Amnok River () is a river on the border between China and North Korea. KBS 1TV is a South Korean free-to-air television channel that launched on 31 December 1961 and is owned by Korean Broadcasting System. The channel offers more serious programming than its sister channel KBS2, and airs with no commercials. History KBS1 was not the first television channel in South Korea. DBC (Daehan Broadcasting) was established on May 12, 1956 and aired to a limited television audience. The channel was owned by the Korean RCA Distribution Company (KORCAD) and initially took on its name, as well as the call sign HLKZ TV.
