Sacred Heart Church (Tirana)
The Sacred Heart Church () is a Roman Catholic church in Tirana, Albania. Built in 1939 during the Italian invasion of Albania, it is the oldest Catholic church in the city. History The Sacred Heart Church was built in 1939 by the Italians during the Italian invasion of Albania and inaugurated in 24 December 1939. It was closed in 1967 when all religions were banned in Albania. During the 1967-1990 religion ban in Albania, the church was used as a hideout by Catholics to pray in the house of God despite its state of disrepair. During that period, a wall was erected in front of the façade of the church. It reopened in 1990. The bell-tower had been destroyed, but the bell was saved. Since the neighboring Orthodox church had a bell-tower but no bell, the Sacred Heart's bell was given to them. Thus the two churches symbolically use the same instrument to call the faithful. The Church of Jesus’ Heart () is a parish church in the historical centre of Kőszeg, Western Hungary. The building is considered to be a fine example of Gothic Revival architecture. The church was designed by Vienna, Viennese architect Ludwig Schöne and was built between 1892 and 1894 in place of the old ''Korona Hotel'' on the main square. It is a hall church with three naves, a transept and a polygonal sacrarium. It has a 57 metres high tower and two pinnacles. The bell plays a melody from Händel's oratorio ''Saul (Handel), Saul.'' The carved wooden altars were made in Vienna and in Tyrol (state), Tirol. The Church of the Holy Heart of Jesus (, , ) is the only Roman Catholic church in the city of Podgorica, Montenegro. It was built in 1969, replacing the city centre church which was destroyed during the bombing of Podgorica in World War II. The church is a unique example of brutalist architecture, and is located in the Konik neighborhood. It serves the native Albanian Catholic population in Podgorica and Tuzi. Construction The cathedral was built in 1969, three years after the renewal of the city's Catholic parish. It was designed by prof. ing. Zvonimir Vrkljan of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb, Croatia, and was built to resemble a ship. The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is in Fontana, Gozo Island, part of the Maltese Archipelago. It is the parish church of Fontana, one of the smallest villages on the island. History The foundation stone was laid on 29 January 1893. The church was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 29 January 1905 by Bishop Giovanni Maria Camilleri. The main altarpiece, showing the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, was crowned with a golden crown on 18 June 1993, by Bishop Nicholas J.
