''Chrysogonum virginianum'', the golden-knee, green and gold, or goldenstar, is a North American species of plants in the family Asteraceae. It is native to the eastern United States from New York State and Rhode Island south to Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle. The species is sometimes grown as a perennial ornamental because of its showy flowers. Heliantheae
The Heliantheae (sometimes called the sunflower tribe) are the third-largest Tribe (biology), tribe in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). With some 190 genera and nearly 2500 recognized species, only the tribes Senecioneae and Astereae are larger. The name is derived from the genus ''Helianthus'', which is Ancient Greek, Greek for sun flower. Most genera and species are found in North America (particularly in Mexico) and South America.
