Christian Democracy (Italy, 1997)
Rebirth of Christian Democracy (''Rinascita della Democrazia Cristiana''; RDC) was a small Christian-democratic political party in Italy. History On 6 December 1997 a new Christian Democracy was founded by Flaminio Piccoli, a former heavyweight of the defunct DC. In 2000, on the occasion of the regional elections, the Christian Democracy presented itself under the name of the Christian Democratic Party, to circumvent the ban on presenting itself with the historical name of the DC. With the death of the founder Piccoli in April 2000, the party split into two parts. On one side, Carlo Senaldi took over the leadership of ''Rebirth of Christian Democracy'', that on the occasion of the 2001 general elections sided with Sergio D'Antoni and his party European Democracy. The national (organizational) secretary Angelo Sandri was a candidate in a constituency of the Chamber in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, where the movement was also presented in the provincial elections of that same year. Christian Democracy (''Democrazia Cristiana'', DC), also known as Christian Democracy – Third Pole of the Centre (''Democrazia Cristiana – Terzo Polo di Centro''), is a minor Christian democracy, Christian-democratic list of political parties in Italy, political party in Italy. It was founded in July 2004 by Angelo Sandri following is expulsion from the Christian Democracy (Italy, 2002), Christian Democracy led by Giuseppe Pizza. Since then the party has taken part in long legal battles on the property of the symbol and the name of the original Christian Democracy (Italy), Christian Democracy with its rival party. Sergio D'Antoni
Sergio Antonio D'Antoni (born 10 December 1946 in Caltanissetta) is an Italian politician, syndicalist and sports manager, current President of CONI Sicilia. Biography Graduated in law, D'Antoni became a researcher at the University of Palermo. He joined the Italian Confederation of Workers' Trade Unions (CISL) in the early 1970s, becoming finally its General Secretary in 1991. He remained leader of the CISL until 2000, furthermore he has been member of the National Council for Economics and Labour (CNEL) from 1991 to 1999. In 2001 D'Antoni founded a new centrist party, European Democracy, that elected two senators in the Italian general election of the same year. Still in 2001, he was a candidate in the Sicilian regional election, getting the 5% of the votes. Christian Democracy for Autonomies (, DCA) was a minor Christian-democratic political party in Italy, led by Gianfranco Rotondi. Later incarnations of the party, also led by Rotondi, include Christian Revolution, Green is Popular and Christian Democracy with Rotondi. History DCA was founded on 25 October 2004 by a split from the Union of Christian and Centre Democrats (UDC) led by Gianfranco Rotondi, who wanted closer ties with Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia and who criticised the political line of the then-leader of UDC Marco Follini. The party became part of the centre-right coalition following its foundation. The party was part of the House of Freedoms coalition in the 2006 general election, competing the election in an electoral list with the New Italian Socialist Party. European Democracy (, DE) was a minor Christian-democratic, centrist political party in Italy.
