Chris Dawes (Jamaican Footballer)
Christopher Dawes (born 31 May 1974) is a retired Jamaican footballer. He was known to be very disciplined, a good passer of the ball and a tight man-marker. Club career Nicknamed 'Simba', Dawes has played as a defender or midfielder, starting his career at Jamaican club Galaxy F.C. and having a brief spell at Belgian Fourth Division club SVD Handzame in 1996. In 2001, he signed for MLS club MetroStars only to be traded to Colorado Rapids for a 2002 draft pick. Dawes returned to Jamaica in 2002 joining May Pen based club Hazard United and had a brief stint with Village United before returning to the previous club, now relocated and called Portmore United. He retired in 2006 to become a coach. International career He also played for the Jamaica national football team and was a participant at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Kingston is the capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. It faces a natural harbour protected by the Palisadoes, a long sand spit which connects the town of Port Royal and the Norman Manley International Airport to the rest of the island. May Pen
May Pen is the capital and largest town in the parish of Clarendon in Middlesex County, Jamaica. It is located on the Rio Minho river (Jamaica's longest), and is a major market centre for the Parish. The population was 61,548 at the 2011 census increasing from 59,550 in 2001, including the surrounding suburbs of Sandy Bay, Mineral Heights, Hazard, Palmers Cross, Denbigh, Race Track, and Four Paths among others. The town has a mayor. Description May Pen, originally May's Pen, was established as a pen (cattle farm) settlement by the British between 1660 and 1683 on a crossing point of the Rio Minho river. It became part of an estate named after its owner, slave trader, Reverend William May, who was born in England in 1695 but in his later years resided in Jamaica. Sporting Central Academy or otherwise known simply as Sporting is a Jamaican football club based in the Clarendon, Jamaica. Sporting Central plays in Clarendon Major League, the third tier of Jamaican football. History After the collapse of Galaxy F.C., Brandon Murray and Chris Dawes decided to start a new club in Clarendon to take the parish' place at Jamaica's top tier and in 2000 Sporting Central Academy was formed. They play their home games at Murray's farm, a few miles down the road from May Pen. They finally clinched promotion to the top level in June 2007, under former managers Chris Dawes and Kevin Williams, and are the first team from Clarendon to compete there, since Hazard United's move to St Catherine in 2003. The National Premier League, also known for sponsorship purposes as the Red Stripe Premier League, is sanctioned by the Jamaican Football Federation as the top division for men's association football in Jamaica.
