Edward Chippindall
Lieutenant-General Edward Chippindall, (4 October 1827 – 13 September 1902) was a British Army officer in the Crimean War and in various expeditions in British India. Military career Chippindall was born in 1827, and had two brothers, Rev. J. Chippindall and Robert Chippindall. He was commissioned an ensign in the 32nd (Cornwall) Regiment of Foot on 10 December 1847. He saw active service in the Second Anglo-Sikh War, and was present at the Siege of Multan and the Battle of Gujrat (Feb 1849), shortly before which he was promoted to lieutenant on 9 January 1849. Giles Chippindall
Sir Giles Tatlock Chippindall (21 May 189320 December 1969) was a senior Australian public servant. He was Departmental secretary, Secretary of the Department of Supply and Shipping between 1945 and 1946 and Director-General of the Postmaster-General's Department between 1949 and 1958. Life and career Giles Chippindall was born in Carlton, Melbourne on 21 May 1893. He was educated at state schools in Victoria and Prahran College. Chippindall joined the Australian Public Service in 1908 as a telegraph messenger in the Postmaster-General's Department. During World War II, he served in a multitude of roles to progress the war-effort, including as Secretary of the Department of Supply and Shipping between 1945 and 1946. He was appointed Director-General of the Postmaster-General's Department, Postmaster General's Department in 1949, serving in the role until his retirement in May 1958. Lucy Katherine (Kathleen) Armitage Chippindall, also known as Chipps and later as Mrs. Albert Oliff Crook (15 February 1913, Pretoria – 4 April 1992) was a South African botanist and agrostologist. Life Lucy Katherine Armitage Chippindall was born on 15 February 1913 in Pretoria. She studied at St. Mary's Diocesan School in Pretoria from 1919 to 1929, and then at the University of Witwatersrand, graduating as a Bachelor of Sciences in 1948. As a teenager Chippindall worked at haberdashery department of a store in Pretoria and then at the Botanical Research Institute. She was a Technical Assistant in the Division of Botany in Pretoria from 1931 to 1945. She specialized in the taxonomy of the ''Gramineae''. Chippindall is also considered a specialty author on spermatophytes.
