Chinese Rap
Chinese hip hop (), also known as C-Rap, is a subgenre of Chinese music. Some of the earliest influences of hip-hop in came from films such as '' Beat Street'' (1984) which entered China on video tape via embassy workers or foreign businessmen and their families. History The first DJ in China who played hip hop music on a daily basis was a resident at the first Chinese nightclub Juliana's in Beijing in 1984. At the time there were no other clubs in mainland China but Juliana's, which was already receiving monthly deliveries of records from London featuring labels such as Sugarhill, Tommy Boy, and StreetSounds. In 1992, China got its first regular hip hop nights (Fridays/Saturdays) at Kunlun Hotel Crystal Disco in Beijing. Yin Ts'ang (隐藏) released a full-length album, ''Serve The People'' (为人民服务) (2002). Chinese Music
The music of China consists of many distinct traditions, often specifically originating with one of the country's various ethnic groups. It is produced within and without the country, involving either people of Chinese origin, the use of traditional Chinese instruments, Chinese music theory, or the languages of China. It includes traditional classical forms and indigenous folk music, as well as recorded popular music and forms inspired by Western culture. Documents and archaeological artifacts from early Chinese civilization show a well-developed musical culture as early as the Zhou dynasty (1122–256 BC) that set the tone for the continual development of Chinese musicology in following dynasties. Jin Au-Yeung (; born June 4, 1982), known professionally as MC Jin, is an American rapper, songwriter, actor and comedian of Chinese descent. Jin is notable for being the first Asian American solo rapper to be signed to a major record label in the United States. Early life Jin Au-Yeung was born on June 4, 1982, in Miami, Florida, to Hong Kong immigrants of Hakka descent. He was raised in the general Miami area, where his parents owned a Chinese restaurant and Jin attended John F. Kennedy Middle School in North Miami Beach. Jin went on to attend North Miami Beach Senior High School, from which he graduated in 2000. After graduating, Jin decided to forgo college and begin his rap career. CD Rev, also known as Chengdu Revolution or 天府事变 (tiān fǔ shìbiàn), is a Chinese Communist Party-sponsored gangsta rap group whose nationalist-themed music has been described in the West as propaganda. The group's music videos have been viewed online millions of times partly due to the support of state media in China and widely discussed in Western media. Zuhair Hassan (born 19 August 1995), known professionally as Big Zuu, is an English rapper, singer, songwriter, DJ and television personality from West London. Jeff Chang is an American historian, journalist, and music critic on hip hop music and culture. His 2005 book, '' Can't Stop Won't Stop'', which won the American Book Award, chronicles the early hip hop scene. Tonal Language
Tone is the use of pitch in language to distinguish lexical or grammatical meaning—that is, to distinguish or to inflect words. ''Beat Street'' is a 1984 American dance drama film featuring New York City hip hop culture of the early 1980s.
