Chilean Climbing Mouse
''Irenomys tarsalis'', also known as the Chilean climbing mouse, Chilean tree mouse, or long-footed irenomys,Musser and Carleton, 2005, p. 1121 is a rodent found in List of mammals of Chile, Chile, from about 36° to 46°S, and in adjacent List of mammals of Argentina, Argentina, mainly in forests. It is a large, long-tailed, soft-furred mouse characterized by grooved upper incisors and specialized molar (tooth), molars with transverse ridges, divided by deep valleys, which are connected by a transverse ridge along the midline of the molars. ''I. tarsalis'' is a docile, herbivorous animal that lives in trees. It is so distinct from other species that it was placed in its own genus, ''Irenomys'', in 1919. Oldfield Thomas
Michael Rogers Oldfield Thomas (21 February 1858 – 16 June 1929) was a British zoologist. Career Thomas worked at the Natural History Museum on mammals, describing about 2,000 new species and subspecies for the first time. He was appointed to the museum secretary's office in 1876, transferring to the zoological department in 1878. In 1891, Thomas married Mary Kane, daughter of Sir Andrew Clark, heiress to a small fortune, which gave him the finances to hire mammal collectors and present their specimens to the museum. He also did field work himself in Western Europe and South America. His wife shared his interest in natural history, and accompanied him on collecting trips. In 1896, when William Henry Flower took control of the department, he hired Richard Lydekker to rearrange the exhibitions, allowing Thomas to concentrate on these new specimens. ''Scolomys'' is a genus of rodent in the tribe Oryzomyini of the family Cricetidae. Some evidence suggests that it is related to ''Zygodontomys''. Cladistics (; ) is an approach to biological classification in which organisms are categorized in groups (" clades") based on hypotheses of most recent common ancestry.
