Children's Railway
A children's railway or pioneer railway is an extracurricular educational institution, where children interested in rail transport can learn railway professions. This phenomenon originated in the USSR and was greatly developed in Soviet times. The world's first children's railway was opened in Gorky Park, Moscow, in 1932. At the breakup of the USSR, 52 children's railways existed in the country. Many children's railways are still functioning in post-Soviet states and Eastern European countries. Many exhibit railway technology not seen anymore on the main lines and can be seen as heritage railways. Even though few exceptions exist, most children's railways built in the Eastern Bloc have a track gauge of at least and can carry full size narrow gauge rolling stock. Train Ride
A train ride or miniature train consists of miniature trains capable of carrying people. Some are considered amusement rides and some are located in amusement parks and municipal parks. Backyard railroads and ridable miniature railways run on tracks, and especially if the service is provided by a non-commercial hobbyist club, their trains may be exact scale models, often with a live steam locomotive. Some train rides are kiddie rides, which are commercial children's rides that often use simple, colorful equipment with the driving mechanism hidden under vacuum-formed plastic covers. Trackless trains do not use tracks and usually consist of railroad-like cars towed behind an ordinary, or modified motor vehicle. This type of ride is often used for sightseeing tours. Some roller coasters like the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attractions in several Disney parks resemble train rides, but may not be available to children under a certain age or minimum height. Children's Railway (Efteling)
The Children’s Railway is a pedal train attraction in the Efteling amusement park. History The track was introduced in 1954 under the name ''Pedal Trains'' ( Dutch: ''Traptreintjes'') in the northern section of the park. The concept was developed by Peter Reijnders, who wanted to create a world where children could ride through, including a farm with corn fields, a pond, the railway station ''The Blue Heron'' (Dutch: ''de Blauwe Reiger'') and a level crossing. The guard at this crossing is modeled after Reijnders. The original braking system in the station caused quite some accidents as it was quite abrupt. In 2000 the ride was moved to the eastern side of the ornamental pond and renamed ''Children Railway'' (Dutch: ''Kinderspoor'') Ride details * Ride length: 2 minutes * Ride capacity: 750 passengers/ hour * The trains are named after bird species * During ''Winter Efteling'' the Children’s Railway is transformed into the langlauf track ''the Panting Deer'' (Dutch: ...

Children's Railway (Budapest)
The Gyermekvasút ( en, Children's Railway) or Line 7 is a narrow gauge railway line in Budapest, which connects and Hűvösvölgy and is long. The former name of the line was ''Úttörővasút'' (''Pioneer Railway'', in reference to the communist scouts), and now the official designation is ''MÁV Zrt. Széchenyi-hegy Gyermekvasút''. Except the train driver, all of the posts are operated by children aged 10–14 under adult supervision. It is the world's largest children's railway. The Széchenyihegy terminus of the Gyermekvasút is a walk from the upper terminus of the Budapest Cog Railway, whilst the Hűvösvölgy terminus is adjacent to the Budapest tram terminus of the same name. History In 1947, the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) company decided that a railway operated by children would be built. For the railway construction several sites were considered, including the neighbourhood of the Gödöllő Palace, Margaret Island, and the Népliget, but finally in 1948 th ...
