Child Abuse In China
Child abuse in China is not clearly defined by the Chinese legal code. Legal status Laws The law of the People's Republic of China on the protection of minors ( zh, 未成年人保护法) and the criminal law of China ( zh, 刑法) do not address the subject of child abuse. Article 49 of the current Chinese constitution, however, forbids the physical abuse of elderly people, women, and children. According to Wang Shengjun, former president of the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China, China does not have a specific law enforced to protect the welfare of children. Statutes concerning this offense are present, but they lack a systematic codification. There are more than 30 organizations within the Chinese government in which child protection is referenced, but none of them is specifically established to tackle child abuse. Wang Shengjun (; born October 15, 1946 in Suzhou, Anhui) is a retired Chinese politician who was the President of the Supreme People's Court of China from March 2008 to March 2013. Biography He joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1972. Wang was appointed as the Secretary General of the Central Political and Legislative Committee in 1998. The Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China (SPC; ) is the highest court of the People's Republic of China. It hears appeals of cases from the high people's courts and is the trial court for cases about matters of national importance.
