Chief Justices Of High Courts Of India
The Indian judiciary consists of the Supreme Court of India, which is the highest court in the country and the constituent courts. The Supreme Court serves as the final court of appeal for all civil and criminal cases in India and consists of 33 judges headed by the Chief Justice of India. The High Courts are the top judicial bodies in individual states, controlled and managed by Chief Justices of the respective courts. There are 25 High Courts in the country with seven of them having multiple jurisdictions. The High Courts manage a system of sub-ordinate courts headed by the various District and Session Courts in their respective jurisdictions. As per the Constitution of India, the Chief Justice, the other judges of the Supreme Court and the High Courts are appointed by the President of India. The Calcutta High Court is the oldest High Court in India. It is located at Esplanade Row West, Calcutta (Kolkata), West Bengal. It has jurisdiction over the state of West Bengal and the Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Telangana High Court is the High Court for the Indian state of Telangana. Founded by the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan, It was established as a High Court for the erstwhile Hyderabad State and in November 1956 after formation of Andhra Pradesh renamed as ''High Court of Andhra Pradesh''. In 2014, after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh the Court was again renamed as ''High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad''. The Madhya Pradesh High Court is the High Court of the state of Madhya Pradesh which is located in Jabalpur. The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh is the common List of high courts in India, high court for union territories of Jammu and Kashmir (union territory), Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The High Court of Rajasthan is located in Jodhpur and is the highest court in the Indian state, state of Rajasthan. It was established on 29 August 1949 under the ''Rajasthan High Court Ordinance, 1949''.
