Chiara Olivieri
Chiara Olivieri (born 9 September 1979 in Negrar) is an Italian curler from Cortina d'Ampezzo. She presently is the alternate for the team skipped by Diana Gaspari. Career Olivieri has represented Italy at 4 European Curling Championships and two World Curling Championships. Her first event as a member of the Italian women's team was the 2001 European Curling Championships, when she played lead. The team finished 11th at the event. She was demoted to the team's alternate position for the 2002 and 2003 European Championships and the 2004 World Championships. She did not play for them at the 2004 Olympics, and she left the team that season. Olivieri returned to the Italian national team in 2011, at the second position. She played in the 2011 European Curling Championships, finished sixth. She was also a member of the team at the 2012 Ford World Women's Curling Championship. Negrar di Valpolicella is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Verona in the Italian region Veneto, about west of Venice and about northwest of Verona. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. European Curling Championships
The European Curling Championships are annual curling tournaments held in Europe between various European nations. The European Curling Championships are usually held in early to mid December. The tournament also acts as a qualifier for the World Championships, where the top eight nations qualify. In November 1974, a six-nations tournament was held in Zürich, Switzerland which included Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, and Norway. In March 1975, it was decided that the championships would be competed in December. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. The 2012 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as Ford World Women's Curling Championship 2012 for sponsorship reasons) was held at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta from March 17 to 25. It marked the 12th time that Canada has hosted the World Women's Curling Championship. The 2012 World Women's Championship was one of the curling events that is a qualifier for the curling tournament at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
