Chhindwara
Chhindwara is a major city in India and a Municipal Corporation in the Chhindwara district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The city is the administrative headquarters of Chhindwara District. Chhindwara is reachable by rail or road from adjacent cities Betul, Jabalpur and Nagpur. The nearest airports are in Nagpur, although there is a small airport located in the district which is not serviceable for passenger planes. History It was believed that Chhindwara District was full of " Chhind" trees (wild date palms) many years ago, and the place was called "Chhind"-"Wada" (wada means place). Another story says that due to the population of lions (called "sinh" in Hindi), it was considered equivalent to entering the lions' den to enter this district. Hence, it was called "Sinh Dwara" (). Chhindwara district () is a List of districts of Madhya Pradesh, district of Madhya Pradesh state in India, and Chhindwara town is the district headquarters. Chhindwara was the largest district in Madhya Pradesh with an area of 10,293 square km before the bifurcation of Pandhurna District, Pandhurna district. The district is part of Jabalpur division. The name Chhindwara has been derived from the word Phoenix sylvestris, ''Chhind'', the local name of a tree found commonly in the district. Chhindwara district was formed on 1 November 1956. Kulbehra River
The Kuldhara River is a river in Chhindwara District of Madhya Pradesh state, India. It is a tributary of the Pench and has a course of about fifty miles. Origin The Kuldhara River starts in Umreth Tehsil at the junction of three small streams near the town of Umreth. Satpura Range
The Satpura Range, formerly also known as the Seeonee Hills, is a range of hills in central India. The range rises in eastern Gujarat running east through the border of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and ends in Chhattisgarh. The range parallels the Vindhya Range to the north, and these two east–west ranges divide Indian Subcontinent into the Indo-Gangetic plain of northern India and the Deccan Plateau of the south. The Narmada River originates from north-eastern end of Satpura in Amarkantak, and runs in the depression between the Satpura and Vindhya ranges, draining the northern slope of the Satpura range, running west towards the Arabian Sea. Pench River
The Pench River is an Indian tributary of the Kanhan River. It originates in the Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh and flows across Pench National Park, which is a reserve for the Tiger Project of India. The two big dams of the Pench River supply water to the city of Nagpur and to the big thermal power plant located there. Machagora Pench dam supplies water to Seoni district and Chhindwara district for agriculture through irrigation canels.
