Chester Williams (police Officer)
Chester Williams (born 1973) is the Commissioner of Belize and the highest police officer of the Belize Police Department. His rapid rise through its ranks was interrupted by accusations that he had committed a murder. Despite the objections of the Solicitor-General, who resigned and left the country in protest, the government of Belize moved to discipline Williams, and he was reduced in rank for six months. The accusations were not resolved until it was revealed that his alleged victim was alive and in the United States, something which had been known to his superiors for some time. Thus vindicated, Williams took up a new post as Officer Commanding the Cayo District Police, but the following month announced that he would be taking study leave in order to attend law school. Belize Police Department
Law enforcement in Belize is conducted by the Belize Police Department, the country’s national police force. It is headed by a Commissioner and is headquartered in Belmopan. History The Belize Police Department is descended from the British Honduras Constabulary (BHC), and started by the burgess family which was established in 1886. Constabulary personnel initially numbered 141 and were recruited in Barbados because local men showed no interest in enlisting. The government assigned the early police the task of preserving law and order in the colony. The Constabulary was at first a paramilitary force, but in 1902, it was made into a civil police force. The constabulary was reorganized after World War I, when soldiers returning from service abroad (as well as several Barbadians and Jamaicans) joined the force. Samuel Awich
Samuel Lungole Awich is a Commonwealth jurist, whose career has taken him from his native Uganda to Botswana, the Solomon Islands, and for the past decade Belize. Career Early career Awich began his legal career as a state counsel in Botswana in 1976, and sat on the bench as a Senior Magistrate in 1980, Principal Magistrate in 1981, Acting Registrar and Master of the High Court in 1983, and Deputy Registrar in 1989. He held those positions until 1993, when he went into private practice with Kgodi and Partners. In 1994 he moved to the Solomon Islands, where he became the Registrar of the High Court and the Court of Appeal. In 1995 he became the Commissioner of the High Court, and was appointed a judge of the High Court in 1996. Edwin F. Flowers (April 26, 1930 – January 27, 2022) was an American lawyer, civil servant, and judge. He served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia from September 8, 1975 to December 31, 1976. Flowers was born in New Cumberland, West Virginia, on April 26, 1920. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1952 and then earned a law degree there in 1954. He served in the US Air Force as a Judge Advocate from 1954 to 1956, and then went into private practice in his home county of Hancock, West Virginia. A Republican, Flowers served as Commissioner of the West Virginia Department of Welfare 1969-75, and was then appointed by governor Arch A. Moore to the West Virginia Supreme Court to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of James Marshall Sprouse. Dean Oliver Barrow, SC PC (born March 2, 1951) is a politician from Belize who served as the fourth prime minister of Belize from 2008 until 2020 and as leader of Belize's United Democratic Party. An attorney by profession, Barrow served as Belize's deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs from 1993 to 1998 and was Leader of the Opposition from 1998 until the UDP won the February 2008 election.
