''Chelsea Girl'' is the debut solo album and second studio album by German singer Nico. It was released in October 1967 by Verve Records and was recorded following Nico's collaboration with the Velvet Underground on their 1967 debut studio album. ''Chelsea Girl'' was produced by Tom Wilson, who added string and flute arrangements against the wishes of Nico. The title is a reference to Andy Warhol's 1966 film '' Chelsea Girls'', in which Nico starred. Much of the album features instrumental work and songwriting credits from Velvet Underground members Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, and John Cale. The song " I'll Keep It with Mine" was written by Bob Dylan, while three songs are by Jackson Browne, who contributes guitar. "Chelsea Girls" is the title track of Nico's 1967 debut album, '' Chelsea Girl''. The song was written by Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison of the Velvet Underground, whom Nico had collaborated with for their debut album the previous year. The title of the song and the album itself is a reference to the 1966 film of the same name by Andy Warhol, which Nico starred in herself. The film was an experimental reality movie that focused on the various residents of the Hotel Chelsea during Warhol's Factory days. Many of them were Bohemian artists, drop outs, and drug addicts, which is also described in the lyrics of the song, and also referred to are turning tricks, heroin, S&M, amphetamine and silver foil. Running at just under seven and a half minutes long, "Chelsea Girls" is similar in style to a ballad, telling the stories of various residents at the hotel. ''Chelsea Girls'' is a 1966 American experimental underground film directed by Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey. The film was Warhol's first major commercial success after a long line of avant-garde art films (both feature-length and short). It was shot at the Hotel Chelsea and other locations in New York City, and follows the lives of several of the young women living there; it stars many of Warhol's "superstars". The film is presented in a split screen, accompanied by alternating soundtracks attached to each scene and an alternation between black-and-white and color photography. The original cut runs at just over three hours long. In 2024, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." ''Life in a Day'' is the debut album by Scottish rock band Simple Minds, released in April 1979 by record label Zoom Records (Scotland), Zoom. It reached number 30 in the UK Albums Chart. The title track and "Chelsea Girl" were issued as singles. Background Most of the songs on the album was written and demoed in 1978 and were part of Simple Minds live set that year. The song "Wasteland" had been written for the bands earlier incarnation as Johnny and the Selfabusers in 1977. "No Cure" was a reworking of an earlier song called "The Cocteau Twins". "Destiny" was a reworking of a song called "Sweet Things" that would open Simple Minds live shows in 1978.
