Charlie Yates Golf Course
In 1998 East Lake Golf Club's No. 2 golf course was transformed into the Charlie Yates Golf Course, a 9-hole "executive" public course that also provides golf education to children living in the city of Atlanta. The course was rated one of the top 10 short range courses in America by Golf Range Magazine and all profits from the course go to benefit the East Lake Foundation. Rees Jones (born September 16, 1941) is an American golf course architect. Life and career Born and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, the son of legendary golf course designer Robert Trent Jones and the younger brother of golf course designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr., he attended Montclair High School. His first exposure to golf course design came as a boy when he would accompany his father surveying courses. After attending Yale and graduate studies at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, he joined his father and older brother at Robert Trent Jones Incorporated. He helped his father on numerous courses until forming his own firm in 1974. He has designed or redesigned over 100 golf courses in his career. East Lake Golf Club
East Lake Golf Club is a private golf club 5 miles east of downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Established in 1904, it is the oldest golf course in the city. East Lake was the home course of golfer Bobby Jones and much of its clubhouse serves as a tribute to his accomplishments. Since 2004, East Lake has been the permanent home of The Tour Championship, the culminating event of the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup. Charles Richardson Yates (September 9, 1913 – October 17, 2005) was an American amateur golfer. He is noted for winning the 1938 Amateur Championship, captaining the United States Walker Cup team and being the long-time Secretary of Augusta National Golf Club. Biography Yates was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 9, 1913 and was raised in a home near East Lake Golf Club's 4th green. Yates won the Georgia State Amateur in 1931 and 1932. In 1934, he won the NCAA individual title. The following year, he won the Western Amateur. The Georgia Tech star became an international name in golf in 1938 when he won The Amateur Championship. In 1936 and 1938, he played on the U.S. Walker Cup Team. He was captain of the 1953 Walker Cup Team, and was named honorary captain in 1985.
