Charleston Station (West Virginia)
Charleston station is an active intercity railroad station in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. Located on MacCorkle Avenue Southeast, the station services trains of Amtrak's ''Cardinal'' between New York Penn Station and Chicago Union Station. The two trains (nos. 50 (eastbound) and 51 (westbound)), make stops in Charleston on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Charleston station contains a single concrete side platform and has a station depot that provides a waiting room for customers. The station depot, built by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in 1905, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Description The station was originally owned by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway. The North Charleston Intermodal Transportation Center is an intermodal transit station in North Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It serves as the Amtrak train station for the Greater Charleston area as well as a bus terminus for the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) and Southeastern Stages, a regional intercity bus common carrier. The street address is 4565 Gaynor Avenue, and is located in the Liberty Hill neighborhood. History Project for the current station began in 1996 with a feasibility study and site selection lead by CARTA. The site chosen was a tract located on West Montague Avenue, wedged between Dorchester Road and Interstate 526. Charleston Air Force Station is a defunct Air Force Station that opened in 1952 and closed in 1980. It was located in Charleston, Maine and is the site of a radar station and other buildings. After closure, it was redeveloped into a juvenile jail for the state of Maine. History In late 1950, construction began on Charleston Air Force Station. North Charleston Air Force Station (ADC ID: M-113 NORAD ID: Z-113) is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located in the City of North Charleston, South Carolina. It was closed in 1980. History North Charleston AFS was established in 1954 by Air Defense Command as one of a planned deployment of forty-four Mobile radar stations to support the permanent ADC Radar network in the United States sited around the perimeter of the country. This deployment was projected to be operational by mid-1952. Funding, constant site changes, construction, and equipment delivery delayed deployment.
