Charles Williams (Wisconsin State Legislator)
Charles Henry Williams (August 13, 1844February 2, 1922) was an American farmer and Democratic politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate for one term, representing the 13th senatorial district ( Dodge County) from 1877 to 1879. Biography Born in Burnett, in Dodge County, Wisconsin, he served in various local offices, and was Town Supervisor of Westford, Dodge County, Wisconsin, where he also resided during his senate term. He was elected to one term in the senate and was defeated seeking re-election in 1878. He died in Minnesota in 1922. The 13th Senate district of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin Senate. Located in south central Wisconsin, the district comprises all of Green Lake and Marquette counties, along with most of Dodge County, western Fond du Lac County, and parts of northern Jefferson County, eastern Adams County, northeast Columbia County, and southwest Winnebago County. The unincorporated community of Lost Lake is also located partially in the town. Lorenzo Merrill
Lorenzo Merrill (June 21, 1818 - August 15, 1895) was an American teacher, farmer, merchant, and politician from Burnett, Wisconsin who served two one-year terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly. He served in the 1st Wisconsin Legislature (1848) as a Democratic member representing the 5th Dodge County Assembly district (the Towns of Fox Lake, Trenton, Calamus and Beaver Dam). He was succeeded the next year by Parker Warren, a Freesoiler. He was elected again in 1859 from the 5th district, this time as a Republican. History Established in 1838, Fox Lake was the first settlement in Dodge County. The first inhabitants were Winnebago Indians who had named the area "Hosh-a-rac-ah-tah", meaning "good land". The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Senate is controlled by the Republican Party (Wisconsin), Republican Party, as it has been for 20 of the past 22 years (only 99th Wisconsin Legislature, 2009-2010 are exceptions).
