Charles Deane (cricketer)
Charles Gerrard Deane (8 March 1885 – 14 December 1914) played first-class cricket, first-class cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club, Somerset from 1907 to 1913. He was born at Oakhill, Somerset and died at Multan, then in India, now in Pakistan. Educated at Taunton School, Deane was a middle or lower order right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm medium-pace bowler. He played fairly regularly for Somerset in the poor season of 1907, though his batting average in 14 matches was only 10.91 and his highest score was just 47. The figures for half a dozen matches in 1908 were even worse, and he did not play in 1909. In 1910 he returned and scored exactly 50 in the first innings of the match with Lancashire County Cricket Club, Lancashire at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Old Trafford; he also took the wicket that broke a second-wicket stand of 295 made in 130 minutes between Alfred Hartley and Johnny Tyldesley in Lancashire's innings. Charles Anthony Deane
Charles Anthony Deane (1796–1848) was a pioneering diving engineer, inventor of the diving helmet. Life Born in Deptford, Charles and his brother John studied at the Greenwich Hospital School for Boys (the former buildings of which are now the National Maritime Museum) to become merchant seamen, going to sea at the age of 14 for a period of 7 years before returning to Deptford. Charles Deane then took up employment as a caulker at Barnard's Shipyard. During this time he realised the problem of fighting fires within the holds of ships. In the 1820s John Deane was present in England when horses were trapped by fire in a stable. Charles Dean
Charles Dean and Neil Sharman were American and Australian citizens, respectively, travelling through Southeast Asia on a backpacking trip in 1974 when they were kidnapped and killed by Communist guerillas. Charles "Charlie" Dean (aged 24) was the brother of future US politician and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, Democracy for America Chairman Jim Dean, and political activist Bill Dean. Neil Sharman (aged 23), was a journalist taking time off from his career to see the world. The two were captured and killed by the Communist Pathet Lao guerrillas. On 14 November 2003, Dean's remains were repatriated to the United States, and Sharman's were repatriated to Australia. Charles Dean Dean grew up in Manhattan and worked summers as a volunteer counselor with Boys Harbor.
