In Devo's music videos, early concerts, literature, and short films, the band created a pastiche and parody of the real world via the idea of "Spudland". Many characters and concepts reoccur in different media. Characters Booji Boy Played by Mark Mothersbaugh, Booji is considered the infantile spirit of Devolution. He first appeared in ''The Truth About De-Evolution'' as a member of the performing band during the "Secret Agent Man" segment. He is the son of General Boy. ''DEVO Live 1980'' is a live album and video DualDisc release by American new wave band Devo, released by Target Video in 2005. Background The release documents a performance by the band filmed on August 17, 1980, during their '' Freedom of Choice'' tour, when the band was gaining mainstream success on the strength of the ''Freedom of Choice'' album and their hit single, " Whip It". It was shot by director/cameraman Joe Reis and his Target Video team at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma, California, using three video cameras. Bassist/songwriter/vocalist Gerald V. Casale provided the following note for the DualDisc's back cover: "This lone artifact offers indisputable evidence that in 1980 Devo had reached a turning point. ''The Complete Truth About De-Evolution'' was the third home video release by new wave band Devo. It is a collection of Devo's music videos from 1976 to 1990. It was released on LaserDisc in 1993 by Voyager and on DVD by Rhino Records in 2003. MVD released a new version of the disc in 2014. Synopsis ''The Complete Truth About De-Evolution'' contains almost all of Devo's music video output from 1976 to 1990. The DVD does not include two notable music videos: the first is " Theme from Doctor Detroit," the theme to the movie '' Doctor Detroit''; the second is the Jimi Hendrix cover " R U Experienced?," which was removed due to protests from the Hendrix estate. ''Pray TV'' (also known as ''KGOD'') is a 1981 American comedy film spoofing televangelism, directed and co-written by Rick Friedberg. The film stars Dabney Coleman, Archie Hahn, Nancy Morgan, Joyce Jameson, Lewis Arquette, Marcia Wallace and Roger E. Mosley, with cameos by Dr. John and the band Devo (who play a Christian rock band named "Dove"). ''New Traditionalists'' is the fourth studio album by the American new wave band Devo, released on August 26, 1981, by Warner Bros. Records. The album was recorded over a period of four months between December 1980 and April 1981, at the Power Station, in Manhattan, New York City. It features the minor hits " Through Being Cool" and " Beautiful World". Background Devo devised the album's title while touring their ''Freedom of Choice'' album in Japan. The group had met two businessmen in a sushi bar who were wearing pins that read "New Traditionalists". Mark Mothersbaugh recalled that the band were inspired by the phrase, as they wanted to create new traditions themselves. The phrase belonged to a right-wing political group in Japan, who were using it as their name, and Devo found the pins in stores and purchased them as a joke.
