Chaney's
Chaney's was a chain of department stores in Southern California. Harold Oaks Chaney (b. Ohio) opened a dry goods store in Lennox, California, in 1924, then his first department store in Hawthorne, California, southwest of Los Angeles. Chaney opened additional stores in the Los Angeles suburbs. By 1961, Chaney had sold his stores, and only two stores with the Chaney nameplate remained, Inglewood and Hawthorne. Also by this time Chaney had a partner in the business, Ted Revere. Fullerton ( ) is a city located in northern Orange County, California, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a total population of 143,617. Fullerton was founded in 1887. It secured the land on behalf of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Sunland-Tujunga is a Los Angeles city neighborhood within the Crescenta Valley and Verdugo Mountains. The Famous Department Store was a department store in Los Angeles, California. History Famous had its origins with the Cal Hirsch & Sons Mercantile Co., founded in 1860 or 1871. The business ran Army and Navy surplus stores in St. Louis. The company opened stores in Los Angeles in 1913 and later moved its headquarters there. It operated the "Army and Navy Store" at 526 South Main Street then in December 1916 moved to a larger space next door, advertised as the "world's largest Army and navy store", at 530-532 South Main Street starting. In 1917, the company advertised another branch store in San Diego. In 1929, the company opened a location in downtown Long Beach. Newhall is the southernmost and oldest community in the city of Santa Clarita, California. Prior to the 1987 consolidation of Canyon Country, Saugus, Newhall, and Valencia into the city of Santa Clarita, it was an unincorporated area. Lennox () is a census-designated place (CDP) in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 20,323 at the 2020 census, down from 22,753 at the 2010 census. History Lennox was established as a small farming settlement sometime around 1905, and named Lennox in 1912.
