Champigny-sur-Marne (, literally ''Champigny on Marne'') is a major city in the region of Île-de-France, France. It is located from the centre of Paris. Name Champigny-sur-Marne was originally called simply Champigny. The name Champigny ultimately comes from Medieval Latin ''Campaniacum'', meaning "estate of Campanius", a Gallo-Roman landowner. In 1897 the name of the commune officially became Champigny-sur-Marne (meaning "Champigny upon Marne"), in order to distinguish it from other communes of France also called Champigny. Champigny is an administrative sector and neighbourhood of Quebec City. It is also the name of a sub-sub-fief on the île d'Orléans in the era of New France New France (, ) was the territory colonized by Kingdom of France, France in North America, beginning with the exploration of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence by Jacques Cartier in 1534 and ending with the cession of New France to Kingdom of Great Br ... that may have give its name to the neighbourhood. The Collège de Champigny is a private secondary school. Founded by the Sacred Heart Brothers in 1969, it was established to provide education to everyone, according to the wishes of Father André Coindre, its founder.
