Challenger Trucks
Challenger Manufacturing Ltd. was a British Columbia–based Canadian manufacturer of heavy trucks, that built both highway and off road trucks, particularly for the logging industry, under the Challenger, ''Custom Built for Heavy Industry'', brand. Challenger was founded by John Casanave in Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, in 1987. Port Alberni () is a city located on Vancouver Island in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The Hayes Manufacturing Company, also known as Hayes, was a Canadian manufacturer specializing in heavy equipment vehicles. Founded in 1928 as ''Hayes-Anderson'', Hayes developed custom trucks and off-road vehicles to expanded with the local forestry industry in Vancouver. Before World War II, Hayes had diversified into streamliner buses, while afterwards they expanded into on-highway semi-trailer trucks. In 1969, Mack Trucks acquired a majority stake in Hayes before ultimately being sold off to Paccar five years later. Hayes ceased operations in 1975. Pacific Truck & Trailer Limited was a Vancouver, Canada based manufacturer of heavy trucks famed for their durability. Pacific built both highway and Off-roading, off-road trucks, particularly for the logging industry, heavy haulers, and fire trucks. In 1947, three former Hayes Truck employees set up their truck-building shop, Pacific Truck & Trailer. Initially based on a shipping wharf at West Coast Shipyards on False Creek, in 1948 it moved to Franklin Street, East Vancouver. In 1967 it moved to North Vancouver (city), North Vancouver. By this stage, it had manufactured 350 trucks and many trailers. While this is may be a low volume compared to higher-production truck brands, Pacific was well regarded for their hand-built quality and ability to respond to custom requests.
