Chains (DLT Song)
"Chains" is a hip hop song by New Zealand DJ DLT (musician), DLT featuring singer Che Fu. The song reached number one on the New Zealand charts. It was Che-Fu's first song after leaving Supergroove and marked the beginning of his solo career. Development Che-Fu had been asked to feature on the song before his departure from Supergroove. He came to the recording unaware that he needed to write a chorus as well as a verse, and came up with the memorable hook "Come break my chains/Come help me out/Living in the city ain't so bad" on the spot. The lyrics indirectly address the French nuclear testing at the Moruroa, Mururoa islands. Chart performance The song debuted on the New Zealand charts at number two, then rose to number one where it remained for five weeks. Year-end charts Awards At the 1997 New Zealand Music Awards "Chains" won Best Single, and Che-Fu was awarded Best Male Vocalist for the song. DLT or Darryl Leigh Thomson, is a New Zealand hip hop DJ, music producer and composer as well as a visual artist. He was a founding member of Upper Hutt Posse (UHP). As a solo artist DLT issued two albums, ''The True School'' (1996) and ''Altruism'' (2000) – both peaked on the Recorded Music NZ, New Zealand albums chart top 20. His most successful single, "Chains (DLT song), Chains" (1996), featuring vocals by Che Fu, reached number one on the New Zealand singles chart. Biography Darryl Leigh Thomson, was born in Maraenui, New Zealand. Che Fu
Che Kuo Eruera Ness (born 1974), better known by his stage name Che Fu, is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and producer. A founding member of the band Supergroove, as a solo artist he has gone on to sell thousands of albums both in New Zealand and internationally. Che Fu is considered a pioneer of hip hop and Pasifika music in New Zealand. Early life Che Fu was born Che Ness in Auckland. His mother, Miriama Rauhihi Ness is of Māori descent and his father Tigilau Ness is Niuean. Fu's parents are well-known political activists, notably as members of the Polynesian-rights group, the Polynesian Panthers, and founding members of Rastafarian movement '' 12 Tribes of Israel''. "Sitting Inside My Head" is a song by New Zealand funk rock band Supergroove from their debut studio album, '' Traction'' (1994). Released through BMG in 1994 as the album's fourth and final single, the track peaked at No. 6 on the New Zealand singles chart and became the 34th best-selling single of 1994 in the country. Composition and development "Sitting Inside My Head" is a funk rock song written in the key of E major, incorporating distorted horns and lead vocals by Che Fu. Karl Steven, the song's co-writer and co-producer, has described its initial form without Che Fu's contribution as "quite bad." However, after the latter successfully asked to contribute to the song during its recording session, it grew to become Steven's favourite Supergroove song. Supergroove
Supergroove is a New Zealand funk rock music group. Their debut album '' Traction'' was released in 1994. The group disbanded in 1997 but reformed in 2007. History The band was founded on New Year's Eve 1989/1990, having previously been named the Low-Down Dirty Blues Band. Prior to Supergroove's second album ''Backspacer'', singer Che Fu and trumpeter Tim Stewart were fired from the band. Solo careers Notable former members include Che Ness, aka Che Fu, now with a successful solo career, Paul Russell, who still studio drums with Che Fu. Two other ex-members, Tim Stewart (trumpet) and Ben Sciascia (guitar) formed a new band in late 2005 called Svelte with Stewart on Lead vocals and Bass. Moruroa
Moruroa (Mururoa, Mururura), also historically known as Aopuni, is an atoll which forms part of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is located about southeast of Tahiti. Administratively Moruroa Atoll is part of the Commune of France, commune of Tureia, which includes the atolls of Tureia, Fangataufa, Tematangi and Vanavana. The APRA Top 100 New Zealand Songs of All Time is a selection of New Zealand songs as voted in 2001 by members of the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA). The top 30 of this selection was used to create the '' Nature's Best'' CD and the rest of the list for follow-up compilations. A similar list was made in Australia of the top 30 Australian songs. Selection The list was created to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) in New Zealand in 2001. ''Nature's Best'' is a two-disc compilation album of thirty New Zealand popular music songs, selected by a panel as the top thirty New Zealand songs of all time. Selection The genesis of the idea was the 75th anniversary of the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) in New Zealand in 2001 and the selection of the top 100 New Zealand songs of the past 75 years. A list of over 900 candidate songs was prepared, and voting was open to APRA members and an invited academy. The list of the top 100 songs was announced in stages in 2001, with the number one place going to the 1969 song "Nature" by Fourmyula. A collaborative effort by representatives of major record companies and APRA - most notably Mike Chunn - took place to produce an album of the top 30 songs from this selection.
