picture info	Cervo, Liguria Cervo () is a small, ancient town and ''comune'', built on top of a hill along the Italian Riviera in the province of Imperia. It has approximately 1,200 inhabitants. It is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy"). Overview The settlement began as a Roman mansion along the Via Julia Augusta. Slowly expanding, it became, in medieval times, a fief of the Clavesana marquis, who was a subject of the Republic of Genoa, to which Cervo had always been faithful. The present character of Cervo dates from these times: 16th-century towers and ramparts still protect the village. One of its main attractions is the fine baroque church of St. John the Baptist, overlooking the sea. The Romanesque architecture, Romanesque Oratorio di Catherine of Alexandria, Santa Caterina contain 18th-century frescoes. It is the principal tributary of the river Sesia, which itself is a significant tributary of the Po. Etymology The name ''Cervo'' rather than from the Latin ''cervus'' (''deer'') should come from the Germanic ''saar'' (''stream'' or ''river''). Geography It crosses the provinces of Biella (communes of Piedicavallo, Rosazza, Campiglia Cervo, Sagliano Micca, Andorno Micca, Tollegno, Biella, Candelo and Castelletto Cervo) and Vercelli (Quinto Vercellese). The Cervo’s source is the Lago della Vecchia (close to the '' Rifugio della Vecchia'') in the Biellese Prealps. Introduced in 1976 as the successor to the Suzuki Fronte#Fronte Coupé, Suzuki Fronte Coupé, the Cervo name was originally affixed to a kei sports coupe, and then to models derived from the Suzuki Alto. The nameplate was retired between 1998 and 2006, and again in December 2009. Cervo SS20 (first generation) Suzuki was the first company to offer a kei car in 1955. One interesting departure from other Kei cars was the Fronte Coupé introduced in September 1971. It was a 2+2 (or a strict 2-seater) Giorgetto Giugiaro, Giugiaro-designed mini GT based on the rear-engine Suzuki Fronte, measuring a mere 2995 mm.
