Centre For Governance Studies
The Center for Governance Studies is a non-profit, nonpartisan think tank and research institute founded in 2004. It studies politics and governance in Bangladesh. Manjur Ahmed Chowdhury is chairman of the Center for Governance Studies. Zillur Rahman is the executive director. History Center for Governance Studies was established in 2004. The advisory panel includes Ali Riaz, M Sakhawat Hossain, Nasim Ferdous, and Rokanuddin Mahmud. In November 2023, executive director Zillur Rahman predicted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would face the same repression she was imposing on her opponents if she was removed from power. Muhammad Abdul Mazid
Muhammad Abdul Mazid is a retired secretary and former chairman of the National Board of Revenue. He is a former chairman of the Chittagong Stock Exchange. He is the chief coordinator of the Bangladesh Diabetic Samity. Early life Mazid was born on 12 July 1953 in Shatkhira District, East Bengal, Pakistan. He did his bachelor's and master's in English literature at the University of Dhaka. He completed his PhD in social science. Career From 1974 to 1980, Mazid worked at Bangladesh Bank. Mazid joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1981 as an Audit and Accounts cadre. From 1994 to 2000, Mazid was the commercial counselor at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan. The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit is a government agency of Bangladesh responsible for investigating money laundering, suspicious transactions, and cash transaction reports. The unit works under Bangladesh bank. Md Masud Biswas is the chief of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit. History The unit was founded as the Anti-Money Laundering Department of Bangladesh Bank in June 2002. The name of the department was changed to Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit on 25 January 2012 through the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012. Fakhruddin Ahmed (born 1 May 1940) is a Bangladeshi economist, civil servant, and a former governor of the Bangladesh Bank, the country's central bank. 2006–2008 Bangladesh Political Crisis
The 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis began as a caretaker government (CTG) assumed power at the end of October 2006 following the end of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party administration. The BNP government increased the chief justice's retirement age in an unconstitutional way to bias the appointment of the head of the caretaker government. CTG manages the government during the interim 90-day period and parliamentary elections. Political conflict began with the alleged appointment of a Chief Adviser, a role which devolved to the President, Dr. Iajuddin Ahmed. The interim period was marked from the beginning by violent protests initiated by the Awami League named '' Logi Boitha Andolan'' (Boat-hook and Oar Movement), with 40 people killed and hundreds injured in the first month. Somoy Television () is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language satellite and cable 24-hour Bengali television channel, headquartered at 89, Bir Uttam CR Dutta Road, Banglamotor, Dhaka. It has a broadcast NOC license from the government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. After a test transmission on 10 October 2010, it has been commercially on-air since 17 April 2011.
