Centenary Gentlemen Basketball
The Centenary Gentlemen basketball team represents Centenary College, located in Shreveport, Louisiana, in NCAA Division III men's basketball competition. The "Gentlemen" nickname is exclusive to men's athletes and teams; ''Ladies'' is used for women's teams and athletes. The team is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, which is part of the NCAA Division III. From 1960 until 2011, Centenary competed at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Trans America Athletic Conference (now Atlantic Sun Conference) and most recently the Summit League before re-classifying to Division III. Centenary did not make an appearance in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in its over 50 years at the D-I level. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), founded in 1962, is an intercollegiate athletic conference which competes in the NCAA's Division III. Member institutions are located in Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, and Texas. Difficulties related to travel distances led seven former members to announce the formation of a new Southeastern US-based conference, the Southern Athletic Association, starting with the 2012–13 academic year. The Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) is a collegiate athletic conference operating mostly in the Southeastern United States. The league participates at the NCAA Division I level, and began sponsoring football at the Division I FCS level in 2022. Robert Lee Parish (born August 30, 1953) is an American former professional basketball player. A 7'1" Center (basketball), center, nicknamed "the Chief", Parish played for four teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1976 to 1997. During his 14-year tenure with the Boston Celtics, Parish teamed with Hall-of-Fame forwards Larry Bird and Kevin McHale (basketball), Kevin McHale to form one of the greatest front lines in NBA history. Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) is a private Methodist-affiliated university in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was founded in 1887 by Nebraska Methodists. The UT Dallas Comets are the athletic teams that represent the University of Texas at Dallas, located in the Dallas suburb of Richardson, Texas, in NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports. The NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament (officially styled as "Championship" instead of "Tournament") is a tournament to determine the NCAA Division III national champion. It has been held annually from 1975 to 2019 & since 2022, but not played in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 issues. From 1996 to 2012 and 2014 to 2018, the NCAA Division III men's basketball championship was held at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia. The event had been hosted by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the City of Salem. From 2017 to 2020 & since 2022, the tournament has been a 64-team single-elimination tournament, with teams advancing from four sectionals to the semifinals and final in Fort Wayne. John Patrick Beilein ( ; born February 5, 1953) is an American professional basketball coach who currently serves as a college basketball analyst for the Big Ten Network. Robert Edward Huggins (born September 21, 1953), nicknamed "Huggy Bear", is an American college basketball coach. He was the head coach at Walsh, Akron, Cincinnati, Kansas State, and West Virginia. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022. Huggins is the sixth men's college basketball coach with 900 or more career victories. Rob Flaska (born March 23, 1960) is an American former basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Centenary College of Louisiana from 2005 to 2008. His contract was not renewed following his third season with the Gentlemen. Prior to arriving at Centenary, Flaska served as an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas and Texas Christian University (TCU), playing integral parts in recruiting at both schools.
