Species
A species () is often defined as the largest group of organisms in which any two individuals of the appropriate sexes or mating types can produce fertile offspring, typically by sexual reproduction. It is the basic unit of Taxonomy (biology), classification and a taxonomic rank of an organism, as well as a unit of biodiversity. Other ways of defining species include their karyotype, DNA sequence, morphology (biology), morphology, behaviour, or ecological niche. In addition, palaeontologists use the concept of the chronospecies since fossil reproduction cannot be examined. The most recent rigorous estimate for the total number of species of eukaryotes is between 8 and 8.7 million. About 14% of these had been described by 2011. All species (except viruses) are given a binomial nomenclature, two-part name, a "binomen". The first part of a binomen is the name of a genus to which the species belongs. The second part is called the specific name (zoology), specific name or the specific ...

Moth
Moths are a group of insects that includes all members of the order Lepidoptera that are not Butterfly, butterflies. They were previously classified as suborder Heterocera, but the group is Paraphyly, paraphyletic with respect to butterflies (suborder Rhopalocera) and neither subordinate taxon is used in modern classifications. Moths make up the vast majority of the order. There are approximately 160,000 species of moth, many of which have yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, although there are also crepuscular and Diurnal animal, diurnal species. Differences between butterflies and moths While the Butterfly, butterflies form a monophyly, monophyletic group, the moths, comprising the rest of the Lepidoptera, do not. Many attempts have been made to group the superfamilies of the Lepidoptera into natural groups, most of which fail because one of the two groups is not monophyletic: Microlepidoptera and Macrolepidoptera, Heterocera and Rhopalocera, Jugatae a ...

Yponomeutidae
: ''Certain members of the unrelated snout moths (Pyralidae) are also known as "ermine moths." Spilosoma lubricipeda is an unrelated moth with the common name "white ermine."'' An ermine moth is any moth in the family Yponomeutidae, which has several hundred species, most of them in the tropics. The larvae tend to form communal webs, and some are minor pests in agriculture, forestry, and horticulture. Adult moths are minor pollinators. Taxonomy The traditional morphology based taxonomy of Kyrki (1990) divided Yponomeutidae into six subfamilies, but this circumscription is not found to be monophyletic in molecular phylogenetic analyses. van Nieukerken et al (2011) split off Praydidae, Attevidae and Argyresthiidae as separate families, and Sohn (2013) elevated Scythropiinae to family to contain ''Scythropia''. The two remaining subfamilies are: * Saridoscelinae * Yponomeutinae The following genera have not been assigned subfamilies: * '' Abacistis'' * '' Acrataula'' * ' ...

Cedestis Granadensis
''Cedestis granadensis'' is a moth in the family Ermine moth, Yponomeutidae, found in Spain. It is known only from high-altitude habitats (1400–1500 m) with larvae likely feeding on pine needles. Discovery ''Cedestis granadensis'' was first discovered during a Lepidoptera species survey of the Spanish province of Province of Granada, Granada in July 2010. During this time, one female ''Cedestis granadensis'' was collected near the Sierra de Huétor and la Alfaguara Natural Park, Natural Park of Sierra de Huétor. It was initially identified as an unknown species in the family Elachistidae, but subsequent analysis of the genitalia and its genetics revealed it was part of the Yponomeutidae. There were no further records of the species until 2021, when a male was collected near Puebla de Don Fadrique. This individual would later become the holotype specimen for the species description in 2024. Description ''Cedestis granadensis'' males and females are almost identical except ...
