Cats And Bruises
''Cats and Bruises'' is a 1965 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' cartoon directed by Friz Freleng and Hawley Pratt. The short was released on January 30, 1965, and stars Speedy Gonzales and Sylvester. The cartoon itself is mostly made up of old recycled footage from previous Warner Bros. cartoons. Plot Sylvester spies on the Cinco De Mayo festival where Speedy Gonzales and his friends are dancing and partying. Sylvester then dons a mouse disguise consisting of only a pair of mouse ears, and gatecrashes into the festival. At first when two of Speedy's friends mistake Sylvester in the mouse disguise as a giant mouse, Speedy points out to them that it's a cat (el gato), not a mouse, and all the mice then retreat and run for their lives. Speedy then lures Sylvester to the dog pound, where he gets attacked by numerous bulldogs. Sylvester escapes from the dog pound and continues chasing Speedy. Friz Freleng
Isadore "Friz" Freleng (; August 21, 1905May 26, 1995), credited as I. Freleng early in his career, was an American animator, cartoonist, Film director, director, Film producer, producer, and composer known for his work at Warner Bros. Cartoons on the ''Looney Tunes'' and ''Merrie Melodies'' series of cartoons from the 1930s to the early 1960s. In total he created more than 300 cartoons. He introduced and/or developed several of the studio's biggest stars, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Tweety, Sylvester the Cat, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam (to whom he was said to bear more than a passing resemblance), Granny (Looney Tunes), Granny, and Speedy Gonzales. The senior director at Warners' Termite Terrace studio, Freleng directed more cartoons than any other director in the studio (a total of 266), and is also the most officially-honored of the Warner directors, having won five Academy Awards and three Emmy Awards. Cinco de Mayo (; ) is an annual celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. Zaragoza died months after the battle from an illness, however, and a larger French force ultimately defeated the Mexican army at the Second Battle of Puebla and then occupied Mexico City. ''Canary Row'' is a 1949 Warner Bros. ''Merrie Melodies'' short directed by Friz Freleng and written by Tedd Pierce. The short was released on October 7, 1950, and stars Tweety and Sylvester. This is the first Sylvester and Tweety cartoon to feature Granny in her debut. The title of this cartoon is a play on words from '' Cannery Row''; Sylvester later starred in another cartoon with a similar title, ''Cannery Woe''. ''Canary Row'' was nominated for an Academy Award for Cartoon Short Subject but the nomination was withdrawn by its producer, Edward Selzer. ''A Pizza Tweety-Pie'' is a 1958 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' animated cartoon directed by Friz Freleng. The short was released on February 22, 1958, and stars Tweety, Sylvester and Granny. Mel Blanc provides the voices of Sylvester (speaking in an Italian accent) and Tweety, and June Foray (uncredited) provides Granny's voice. It’s also the first Warner Brothers cartoon to have Tom O’Loughlin doing the background noises. Plot Tweety and Granny arrive at their hotel in Venice, Italy on vacation.
