Catholic Church In Zhifang
Catholic Church in Zhifang was the only Catholic church in Zhifang, a village near Xi’an, in Shaanxi province. On December 27, 2017, it was torn down by authorities. The church was located near the Beijing-Kunming highway and had been in constant use since it was built in 1999. Xi’an
Xi'an is the capital of the Chinese province of Shaanxi. G5 Beijing–Kunming Expressway
The Beijing–Kunming Expressway (), designated as G5 and commonly referred to as the Jingkun Expressway () is an expressway that connects the cities of Beijing, and Kunming, in Yunnan province. It is in length. As of 2018, the expressway had been completed in its entirety. The Catholic Church ( zh, p=Tiānzhǔ jiào, c=天主教, l=Religion of the Lord of Heaven, after the Chinese term for the Christian God) first appeared in China upon the arrival of John of Montecorvino in China proper during the Yuan dynasty; he was the first Catholic missionary in the country, and would become the first bishop of Khanbaliq (1271–1368). After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) won the Chinese Civil War, Catholic and Protestant missionaries were expelled from the country. In 1957, the communist government established the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association (CCPA) in Beijing, which rejects the authority of the Holy See and appoints its own preferential bishops. In September 2018, China and the Holy See reached a provisional agreement giving the Pope the power to veto any bishop which the Chinese government recommends.
