Catherine, Princess Of Asturias
Catherine of Castile ( Castilian: ''Catalina de Castilla''; 5 October 1422 - 10 September 1424) was ''suo jure'' Princess of Asturias and heiress presumptive to the Castilian throne all her life. Catherine was born on 5 October 1422 in Illescas, Toledo. She was the first child of King John II of Castile and his first wife, Maria of Aragon. Named after her grandmother, Catherine of Lancaster, she immediately became heiress presumptive to the throne of Castile upon her birth. The Infanta was formally recognized as successor to the throne of the kingdom and sworn in as Princess of Asturias in early 1523 by the ''Cortes'' in Toledo. Not much is known about Catherine's life. She died of an unknown illness in Madrigal de las Altas Torres on 10 September 1424. Her younger sister, Infanta Eleanor, replaced her as heiress and Princess of Asturias. Eleanor of Alburquerque (1374 – 16 December 1435) was a Castilian noblewoman, Countess of Alburquerque, who became List of Aragonese consorts, Queen of Aragon by her marriage to Ferdinand I of Aragon. Peter (; 30 August 133423 March 1369), called Peter the Cruel () or the Just (), was King of Castile and León from 1350 to 1369. Peter was the last ruler of the main branch of the House of Ivrea. He was excommunicated by Pope Urban V for his persecutions and cruelties committed against the clergy. Eleanor of Sicily (1325–1375) was Queen of Aragon from 1349 until 1375 as the third wife of King Peter IV. Early life Eleanor was the daughter of Peter II of Sicily and Elisabeth of Carinthia. Sancho Alfonso of Castile (1342–1374), known in Spanish as ''Don Sancho Alfonso de Castilla'', was Infante of Castile, 1st Count of Alburquerque. Constance of Castile (1354 – 24 March 1394) was a claimant to the Crown of Castile. She was the daughter of King Peter, who was deposed and killed by his half-brother, King Henry II. She married the English prince John of Gaunt, who fought to obtain the throne of Castile in her name, but ultimately failed. Family Constance was the daughter of King Peter and María de Padilla.
