Cat Islands In Japan
A number of islands in Japan have become known for their large feral cat populations. These cat islands () tend to be the result of the introduction of cats for pest control. On islands with an appropriate climate, the lack of predators such as dogs, and sometimes a lack of cars, mean these introductions led to large cat populations that faced few threats. Today, the presence of these cats has turned some of these islands into tourist attractions. In many of these islands, the cat populations are larger than the human populations. The presence of cats has sometimes influenced local folklore: there is supposedly a taboo on Kakarajima against keeping dogs, and Tashirojima#Cat shrine, a shrine to a cat deity exists on Tashirojima. Stray cats on these islands are often fed by locals and tourists. However, as they are wild, it is rare that they receive further care or veterinary attention. The use of trap–neuter–return to control cat populations has been used on some occasions. On A ...

Cat Island, The Bahamas
Cat Island is located in the Bahamas, and is one of its districts. Cat Island also has the nation's highest point, Mount Alvernia (formerly known as Como Hill). It rises to and is topped by a monastery called ''The Hermitage''. This assembly of buildings was erected by the Franciscan "Brother Jerome" (John Hawes). History The indigenous Lucayan people called the island ''Guanima'', meaning "middle waters land". The first white settlers were Loyalists fleeing the American Revolution, who arrived in 1783. The island may have been named after Arthur Catt, a pirate, or may be a reference to its one-time large population of feral cats. Historically, the island gained wealth from cotton plantations, but slash and burn farming is now the main way of life for Cat Islanders. An economic crop is '' Croton eluteria'' (called also cascarilla) bark, which is gathered and shipped to Italy where it becomes a main ingredient in medicines, scents and Campari. Sea Islands
The Sea Islands are a chain of over a hundred tidal and barrier islands on the Atlantic Ocean coast of the Southeastern United States, between the mouths of the Santee and St. Johns rivers along South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The largest is Johns Island, South Carolina. Sapelo Island is home to the Gullah people. All of the islands are acutely threatened by sea level rise due to climate change. History Settled by indigenous cultures thousands of years ago, the islands were selected by Spanish colonists as sites for founding of colonial missions. Historically the Spanish influenced the Guale and Mocama chiefdoms by establishing Christian missions in their major settlements, from St. Catherine's Island south to Fort George Island (at present-day Jacksonville, Florida). Both chiefdoms extended to the coastal areas on the mainland. The Mocama Province included territory to the St. Johns River in present-day Florida. The mission system ended under pressur ...
