Cartwright-L'Anse Au Clair
Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair is a provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011, there are 3,131 eligible voters living within the district. The district covers remote communities in Southern Labrador that are mostly dependent on fishery. The district includes: Black Tickle, Charlottetown, Capstan Island, Cartwright, Domino, Forteau, L'Anse Amour, L'Anse au Clair, L'Anse au Loup, Lodge Bay, Mary's Harbour, Norman Bay, Paradise River, Pinsent's Arm, Pinware, Port Hope Simpson, Red Bay, St. Lewis, and West St. Modeste. Black Tickle
Black Tickle (Inuttitut: ''Kikkertet'') is a settlement and designated place in Newfoundland and Labrador, located on the Island of Ponds and part of the unrecognized NunatuKavut territory. In the 2021 census Black Tickle had a population of 87. Locations in Labrador south of Black Tickle generally observe Newfoundland Time instead of Atlantic Standard Time, which is observed by the rest of the province's continental communities. Black Tickle is inaccessible by road and is served by Black Tickle Airport, a gravel strip airport (CCE4). Yvonne Jones
Yvonne Jean Jones (born March 15, 1968) is a Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, who served in the House of Commons of Canada from 2013 to 2025. She represented the district of Labrador as a member of the Liberal Party caucus. On December 2, 2015, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs. Jones is a member of the NunatuKavut, an unrecognized tribal group. She did not seek re-election in 2025. From 1996 to 2013, Jones represented the district of Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly. Pinware
Pinware is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town has a population of 64, according to the Canada 2021 Census. The town is located along Route 510 in Labrador, between L'Anse-au-Diable and Red Bay. The community has been formerly known as Riviere des François, Pirouette River, and Black Bay. It is believed the name is a corruption of Pied Noir (black foot) from the shape of a rock found at the mouth of Black Rock Brook. Paradise River, Newfoundland And Labrador
Paradise River is a community on the southwestern coastline of Sandwich Bay in southeastern Labrador, Canada. Located at the outlet of the river for which the community is named, it is situated along Route 516, the Cartwright Highway, which connects Paradise River to the town of Cartwright as well as the Trans-Labrador Highway (Route 510), which in turn is connected to Happy Valley-Goose Bay among many communities along Labrador's southern coast. The Paradise River provided an important route between the coast and the Labrador interior for native peoples prior to European settlement. The community of Paradise River was established in 1775 by George Cartwright. The people of Paradise River were involved in the cod and salmon fishery in the summer months and fur trapping and hunting in the winter. Norman's Bay
Norman's Bay is a local service district and designated place in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is an isolated community at the head of Norman Bay, an extension of Martin Bay. The population of the community was 15 in the 2021 census. Norman Bay was a winter settlement for the fishing stations of Snug Harbour and Venison Tickle. At the time when southeast Labrador fishing stations were being encouraged to resettle in the 1960s, the Ward family at Snug Harbour resisted pressures to move to Charlottetown or another larger community and instead made Norman's Bay their permanent home. Most people are still dependent on fishing as the main source of income. The community is reliant on the postal, air, and medical services in nearby Charlottetown. L'Anse Au Loup
L'Anse-au-Loup (Town) is located on the banks of L'Anse-au-Loup Brook and the Strait of Belle Isle, in Newfoundland and Labrador province, Canada. History In Quebec-Labrador Peninsula, on the north shore of the Strait of Belle Isle, radiocarbon dating of archaeological sites leads geologists and archaeologists to date the presence of humans around 9,000 years ago, i.e. after the retreat of the ice from the last glaciation. After the glaciation, Newfoundland and Labrador was perhaps the last place to be populated by human groups. Small spear or dart points from Prince Edward Island are very similar to early artifacts found on the north shore of the Strait of Belle Isle.
