Laval is a city in Quebec, Canada. It is in the southwest of the province, north of Montreal. It is the largest suburb of Montreal, the third-largest city in the province after Montreal and Quebec City, and the thirteenth largest city in Canada, with a population of 443,192 in 2021. Laval is geographically separated from the mainland to the north by the Rivière des Mille Îles, and from the Island of Montreal to the south by the Rivière des Prairies. Jacques Tétreault
Jacques Tétreault (; 8 April 1929 – 20 August 2018) was a Canadian politician and lawyer who was a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 1993. His background was in law. He was elected in the 1988 Canadian federal election, 1988 federal election at the Laval Centre, Laval-des-Rapides electoral district for the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, Progressive Conservative party. He served in the 34th Canadian Parliament but did not seek another term in Parliament in the 1993 Canadian federal election, 1993 federal election. Tétrault had also previously served as mayor of Laval, Quebec, Laval between 1965 and 1973. Miracle Mart was a chain of discount department stores with locations in Ontario and Quebec, Canada based in Saint-Laurent, Quebec. The chain was renamed to simply M in the mid-1980s. History The company was founded in early 1961 as Miracle Mart Limited by Montreal-based grocery chain Steinberg's. Later in the year, Steinberg's associated itself with Vancouver-based chain Woodward's. They opened their first store on October 11, 1961, in Pont-Viau under the trade name of Woodward Steinberg. A second store with the same trademark opened in November 1961 at the Place Greenfield Park shopping centre. Dupuis Frères was a large department store on Sainte-Catherine Street East, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The store was founded in 1868 by Nazaire Dupuis, and closed permanently in 1978. Dupuis Frères was a symbol of French-Canadian economic success at a time when Montreal's economy was dominated by English Canada, Anglophones (native English-speaking Quebeckers, mostly with British and Irish roots). History On April 28, 1868, Nazaire Dupuis opened a small novelty store at 865 rue Sainte-Catherine est, in Montreal. He managed to interest several of his brothers in his business, which he called Dupuis Frères in 1870. Despite the economic crisis of 1872, the business continued to prosper.
