The I. L. Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film () is a public university in Bucharest, Romania, founded in 1954. It is named in honour of playwright Ion Luca Caragiale. History First theatre school The first theatre faculty in Bucharest began its activity in 1834 within the Philharmonic School. IATC and precursors (1948-1990) A Faculty of Stage Direction opened in 1948 within the Romanian Art Institute, at that time the center of all Romanian higher education in the arts. The year 1950 saw the founding of the Institute for Film and the Institute for Theatre I. L. Caragiale (named after the classic Romanian playwright). In 1954, the two institutions merged into the I.L. Caragiale Institute of Theatre and Film Arts (IATC). After 1990 The institute functioned under this name until 1990, when it became the Academy of Theatre and Film – the only such school in Romania with a ranking equal to that of a university and with international recognition. Gheorghe Cozorici
Gheorghe Cozorici (; 16 July 1933 – 18 December 1993) was a Romanian film and theatre actor. He appeared in more than thirty films from 1956 to 1989. Born in Arbore, Suceava County, Cozorici graduated in 1956 from the I. L. Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film, I. L. Caragiale Institute of Theatre and Film Arts in Bucharest. He made his theatre debut the next year, in the role of Hamlet. Starting in 1959, he played at the National Theatre Bucharest. In 1971, he was awarded the , 2nd class. Nae Caranfil (; also Nicolae Caranfil) (born 7 September 1960) is a Romanian film director and screenwriter. Career Born in Bucharest, Nae Caranfil is the son of Romanian film historian and critic Tudor Caranfil. Rozina Cambos
Rozina Cambos (; 17 December 1951 – 4 December 2012) was an Israeli actress who distinguished herself as a performer in both Israel and her native Romania. Biography Cambos was born in Bacău to a Romanian-Jewish family. Her father was a stage and artistic director and her mother was an actress. After completing high school, Cambos studied medicine at the request of her parents but she left after a year to pursue acting.
