The annual Car of the Year Japan Award (日本カー・オブ・ザ・イヤー, nihon kā obu za iyā), also known as Japan Car of the Year (or JCOTY), is an annual Car of the Year award given for newly released or redesigned vehicles released in the car buying market in Japan in the twelve months beginning 1 November. The award has been presented since 1980. The current recipient of the award for 2024 to 2025 is the Honda Freed. The first non-Japanese car to win the award was the Volkswagen Golf in 2013, followed by the Volvo XC60 in 2017 and the Volvo XC40 in 2018. The highest-placed car from the United States was the Jeep Cherokee, which was eliminated in the final round in 2014 and was placed eighth. The supervisory board is made up primarily of Japanese automotive journalists. Car of the Year (COTY) is a common abbreviation for numerous automotive awards. The "Car of the Year" phrase is considered to have been introduced by '' Motor Trend'' magazine in 1949 when the new publication named Cadillac as Motor Trend Car of the Year. Other publications and various organizations also have developed COTY recognitions. The Australian automobile magazine '' Wheels'' began an award in 1963. In 1964, a jury of European automotive journalists began selecting the European Car of the Year award. Many COTY awards focus on regional markets, vehicle types, or market segments. Nissan Pulsar
The is a line of automobiles produced by the Japanese automaker Nissan from 1978 until 2000, when it was replaced by the Nissan Sylphy#N16, Nissan Bluebird Sylphy in the Japanese market. Between 2000 and 2005, the name "Pulsar" has been used in Australia and New Zealand on rebadged versions of the Sylphy. This arrangement continued until the introduction of the Nissan Tiida#C11, Nissan Tiida (C11) in 2005; at this time the Pulsar name was retired. The is a minivan manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, marketed in most of the world and currently in its fifth-generation. The Odyssey had originally been conceived and engineered in Japan, in the wake of the country's Japanese asset price bubble, economic crisis of the 1990s, which in turn imposed severe constraints on the vehicle's size and overall concept, dictating the minivan's manufacture in an existing facility with minimal modification. The Mitsubishi FTO is a Front mid-engine, front-wheel-drive layout, front mid-engined, front-wheel drive coupe produced by Mitsubishi Motors between 1994 and 2000. Originally planned exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, its popularity as a grey market import to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand led to eventual limited distribution through Mitsubishi's official dealers in those regions at the tail-end of production.
