Capelsebrug is a station on lines A, B, and C of the Rotterdam Metro. An island platform (also center platform (American English) or centre platform (British English)) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram (RET; ) is the main public transport operator in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It started in 1905 when they took over the city tram lines from RTM (Rotterdamsche Tramweg Maatschappij). It currently operates 64 bus lines, 11 tram lines and five Rapid transit, metro/light rail lines in Rotterdam and the surrounding Municipalities in the Netherlands, municipalities. RET used to employ the National tariff system (Netherlands), national tariff system, like other local transport companies in the Netherlands. The Rotterdam Metro () is a rapid transit system operated in Rotterdam, Netherlands and surrounding municipalities by RET. The first line, called ''Noord – Zuidlijn'' (North – South line) opened in 1968 and ran from Centraal Station to Zuidplein, crossing the river Nieuwe Maas in a tunnel. It was the first metro system to open in the Netherlands. At the time it was also one of the shortest metro lines in the world with a length of only . In 1982 a second line was opened, the ''Oost – Westlijn'' (East – West line), running between Capelsebrug and Coolhaven stations. Capelle Aan Den IJssel
Capelle aan den IJssel ( ; ) is a large town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality had a population of in , and covers an area of , of which is water. It is situated on the eastern edge of Rotterdam, on the Hollandse IJssel river. The town has what is probably the country's smallest museum, the ''Dief- en Duifhuisje'' ("House of Thieves and Pigeons"). Now a historical museum, it served as the prison for the castle of Capelle and is all that now remains of the 17th-century castle. On opposing sides of the A16 motorway are two business parks called ''Rivium'' and ''Brainpark'' respectively.
