''Half a Century of Song'' () is a 1952 Italian anthology comedy film by Domenico Paolella. Plot Through a series of scenes inspired by various songs, the main stages of Italian history of the early twentieth century are traced. Domenico Paolella
Domenico Paolella (18 October 1915 – 7 October 2002) was an Italian director, screenwriter and journalist. Born in Foggia, between 1933 and 1935 Paolella won several contests for amateur directors; in the same years he started working as a journalist for several newspapers and magazines. In 1937 he entered the film industry as assistant of Carmine Gallone for ''Scipio the African'', and the following year made his debut as a director of short films. During Second World War, the war he was correspondent from the Soviet front. From 1946 to 1951 he was artistic director and chief editor of the INCOM newsreel production company. In 1939 Paolella directed his first feature film, ''The Last of the Road''. In subsequent years, he first directed a series of musical films of great success produced by Carlo Infascelli, then he specialized in the comic genre. Galeazzo Benti
Galeazzo Benti (6 August 1923 – 21 April 1993) was an Italian actor. He appeared in more than 70 films between 1942 and 1991. Life and career Born Galeazzo Bentivoglio in Florence, Italy, a descendant of the Bentivoglio family, which ruled Bologna from 1401 until 1506 and from 1511 until 1512, he started his career as a cartoonist and a set designer. He was the step brother of colleague Fiammetta Baralla. After his first roles in 1942, he had his breakout in 1943, in Sergio Tofano's ''Gian Burrasca'', in which he played a frivolous and falsely modest snob, a role he specialized during his career. After successfully alternating between cinema and revue, in the late 1950s he moved to Venezuela, where he worked in a television channel dedicated to Italian immigrants. He came back to Italy in the early 1980s, and here he reprised his acting career equally splitting between films and TV-series until his death from a heart attack in 1993. Maria Pia Casilio (5 May 1935 – 10 April 2012) was an Italian film actress, best known for major roles in ''Umberto D.'' and ''An American in Rome''. Born in San Pio delle Camere, L'Aquila, Casilio was quite active between 1952 and 1960, usually filling roles as a querulous and naive small-town girl. Nico Pepe (19 January 1917 – 13 August 1987) was an Italian actor. He appeared in more than 80 films between 1936 and 1981. Life and career Born in Udine, after a bachelor's degree in business Pepe got a job as a banking clerk, which he quit to perform in the theater company led by Roldano Lupi and Paola Borboni. He later entered some of the major companies of the time, working among others with Vittorio De Sica, Dina Galli, Ruggero Ruggeri and Sergio Tofano. Renato Ranucci (; 27 April 1912 – 2 January 1991), known by the stage name Renato Rascel (), was an Italian film actor and singer. He appeared in 50 films between 1942 and 1972. He represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 1960 with the song "Romantica", which tied for eighth place out of thirteen entries. Biography Rascel was born to Cesare and Paola Ranucci in Turin. Lauretta Masiero (25 October 1927 – 23 March 2010) was an Italian actress and singer. Early life and career Venetian-born Lauretta Masiero debuted in the theater of varieties as a dancer with Wanda Osiris. In 1945 she debuted with Erminio Macario. In 1962 she began acting in films.
