Cannop Cycle Centre
Forest of Dean Cycle Centre is a small woodland cycling centre, comprising mountain bike trails, a visitor centre, car parks and uplift service. It is located on the former site of ''Cannop Colliery'' in the Cannop Valley, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. The nearest village is Parkend, away. In 2012, work was completed on a £100,000 redevelopment of the centre, culminating in the opening of a new cycle bridge. Facilities Use of the visitor centre and trails is completely free. There is a charge for car parking and some facilities, such as use of the bike wash. Forest Of Dean
The Forest of Dean is a geographical, historical and cultural region in the western part of the Counties of England, county of Gloucestershire, England. It forms a roughly triangle, triangular plateau bounded by the River Wye to the west and northwest, Herefordshire to the north, the River Severn to the south, and the Gloucester, City of Gloucester to the east. Forestry England is a division of the Forestry Commission, responsible for managing and promoting publicly owned forests in England. Parkend
Parkend is a village, located at the foot of the Cannop Valley, in the Royal Forest of Dean, West Gloucestershire, England, and has a history dating back to the early 17th century. During the 19th century it was a busy industrial village with several coal mines, an ironworks, stoneworks, timber-yard and a tinplate works, but by the early 20th century most had succumbed to a loss of markets and the general deindustrialization, industrial decline. Cycling UK is a trading name of the Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC), which is a charitable membership organisation supporting cyclists and promoting bicycle use. Singletrack (or single track) describes a type of mountain biking trail that is approximately the width of the bike. It contrasts with double-track or fire road which is wide enough for four-wheeled off-road vehicles. It is often smooth and flowing, but may also feature technical rocky sections, go over tree roots, and include berms, banked turns, switch-backs, hills, drops, jumps, and so forth. Singletrack which descends significantly, and in the most downward direction, is said to be following the fall line.
