This article provides information on candidates standing for the 2009 Queensland state election, which was held on 21 March 2009. Redistribution A redistribution of electoral boundaries occurred in 2008. The electorates of Charters Towers, Cunningham, Darling Downs, Fitzroy, Kurwongbah, Mount Gravatt, Robina, and Tablelands were abolished. The electorates of Buderim, Condamine, Coomera, Dalrymple, Mermaid Beach, Morayfield, Pine Rivers, and Sunnybank were created. The redistribution merged Charters Towers with Tablelands to create the National-held Dalrymple, Fitzroy into Mirani, and Cunningham with Darling Downs to create the National-held Condamine, all in regional Queensland. Notionally Liberal-held Buderim was created on the Sunshine Coast, notionally Labor-held Morayfield in the corridor north of Brisbane, and notionally Labor-held Coomera was created on the Gold Coast. 2009 Queensland State Election
The 2009 Queensland state election was held on 21 March 2009 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. The election saw the incumbent Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), Labor government led by Premier of Queensland, Premier Anna Bligh defeat the Liberal National Party of Queensland led by Leader of the Opposition (Queensland), Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg, and gain a fifth consecutive term in office for her party. Bligh thus became the first female Premier of any Australian State elected in her own right. Shane Knuth
Shane Andrew Knuth (born 7 September 1966) is an Australian politician. He has been a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2004, representing three successive seats: Charters Towers (2004–2009), Dalrymple (2009–2017) and Hill (2017–present). He has variously represented the National Party (2004–08), the Liberal National Party (2008–11) and Katter's Australian Party (2011–present). Biography Knuth was born in the Far North Queensland town of Tully. His brother Jeff Knuth is a former One Nation parliamentarian. Rosa Lee Long
Rosa Therese Lee Long (née Schmid, born 2 October 1945) is a former member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland representing the electorate of Tablelands in Northern Queensland, Australia for the One Nation Party. Lee Long served three consecutive terms in office between 2001 and 2009, making her One Nation's longest-serving politician. Prior to the 2009 Queensland state election, the electorate of Tablelands was abolished, and much of its territory was merged with neighbouring Charters Towers to form the new seat of Dalrymple. Lee Long contested the new electorate against Shane Knuth, the Liberal National member for Charters Towers. However, the new seat contained more of Knuth's territory than Lee Long's, and Lee Long took only 44 percent of the two-party vote to Knuth's 55 percent. Raymond Alexander Stevens (born 1 February 1953) is an Australian politician, currently serving as Member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland representing Mermaid Beach for the Liberal National Party. Judith Caroline Spence (born 19 May 1957) is an Australian politician and former member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland for the Labor Party, from the 1989 election to 2012. She represented Mount Gravatt until 2009, but after a redistribution she switched to Sunnybank, which covered much of the same territory. Steve Dickson
Steven Lance Dickson (born 24 June 1962) is an Australian politician. He was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly beginning in 2006, representing the electorates of Kawana (2006–2009) and Buderim (2009–2017). First elected for the Liberal Party, he joined the Liberal National Party in the 2008 merger, but switched to Pauline Hanson's One Nation in January 2017. He subsequently lost his seat to the LNP candidate at the 2017 election. Kawana is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. Based on the Sunshine Coast, the district has been held by both sides of politics over its short history. Geography A coastal urban electorate lying to the east of the Bruce Highway, Kawana includes the suburbs of Kawana Waters, Sippy Downs, Minyama, Buddina, Parrearra, Warana, Bokarina and Birtinya. It also includes Aroona, Little Mountain, Wurtulla and parts of Currimundi and Caloundra West, all of which were added to the district at the redistribution ahead of the 2009 state election. Carolyn Therese Male (born 7 May 1966) is an Australian politician who was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2001 to 2012. Male was first elected to parliament as the Labor member for Glass House at the 2001 state election. She served three terms as the member for Glass House, but a redistribution ahead of the 2009 state election made the district much less favourable for Labor.
