Canada is represented at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne by a contingent, comprising 253 sportspersons. Flag bearers Wheelchair racing athlete Chantal Petitclerc was chosen as Canada's flag bearer at the opening ceremonies. Commonwealth Sport Canada (CSC) (), formerly Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC), is the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada responsible for Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth Sports movement in Canada. History After conclusion of the 1930 British Empire Games, the Amateur Athletic Union of Canada established a permanent committee known as the British Empire Games Association of Canada. The association oversaw selection of athletes for the games, with Edward Wentworth Beatty as chairman, and Melville Marks Robinson as secretary. By 1937, J. Howard Crocker was the president and secretary of the association. Board of directors Board of directors are elected for a quadrennial term. Adonis Stevenson
Stevenson Adonis (born 22 September 1977), best known as Adonis Stevenson, is a Haitian Canadian former professional boxer who competed from 2006 to 2018. He won the WBC, '' Ring'' magazine and lineal light heavyweight titles in 2013 by defeating Chad Dawson by first-round knockout, which earned him awards for Fighter of the Year and Knockout of the Year by ''The Ring''. Known for his fast hand speed and exceptional knockout power, Stevenson was considered one of boxing's hardest punchers during his prime. Angela Whyte
Angela Whyte (born 22 May 1980) is a Canadian hurdler in track and field athletic competition. She is a three-time Olympian (2004, 2008, and 2016) in the 100m hurdles at the Summer Olympics. She has won multiple medals at both the Pan American Games and the Commonwealth Games in the 100 metres hurdles. She was a four-time All-American and a five-time Big West Conference champion in two years of competition at the University of Idaho and holds school records in the sprints, hurdles, jumps, multi-events and relays at both Idaho and the University of New Mexico. Jason Tunks (born May 7, 1975 in London, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian former discus thrower who has represented Canada in the Olympics in Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. He currently holds the Canadian National Record for discus at . James Steacy (born 29 May 1984 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a male hammer thrower from Canada. Jacques Martin (athlete)
Jacques Martin ( – April 19, 2012) was a paralympic athlete from Canada competing mainly in category F55 throwing events. Biography Martin was from Saint-Denis-de-Brompton, Quebec. Martin competed in every Paralympic Games from 1984 to Athens in 2004. In 1984 he won the shot put for class 4 athletes while also competing in the javelin and discus. He improved on this feat in 1988, defending his gold in the shot and winning a bronze in the discus. Although he did not win a third straight shot put competition in Barcelona in 1992, he still improved, winning the discus for the first time, winning his first medal in javelin, a silver, and finishing in the bronze medal position in the shot put. In the 1996 Summer Paralympics he defended his discus gold medal and again won silver in the javelin. Jennifer Joyce (born September 25, 1980) is a Canadian hammer thrower. While growing up outside of Vancouver, Joyce excelled in multiple sports as a child. In addition to athletics, she participated in soccer and volleyball, earning a spot on the British Columbia soccer provincial team in 1994. However, her greatest success came in hammer throw, in which she won three national junior titles from 1997 to 1999. As a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley, Joyce continued her success and set a Canadian junior national record of 58.90m. Through the course of her successful career as a Golden Bear, Joyce became a Pac-10 Champion and two NCAA All-American. She also was a four-time qualifier for the NCAA Championships, placing as high as fourth in 2000. Nathan Brannen (born 8 September 1982) is a Canadian retired middle-distance runner from Cambridge, Ontario, who competed at three Summer Olympics: 2008, 2012 and 2016. Brannen is a graduate of the University of Michigan. He is affiliated with the Phoenix Athletics Association of Ontario.
