Campbeltown (; or ) is a town and former royal burgh in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It lies by Campbeltown Loch on the Kintyre Peninsula. Campbeltown became an important centre for Scotch whisky, and a busy fishing port. The 2018 population estimate was 4,600, indicating a reduction since the 2011 census. History Originally known as Kinlochkilkerran (an anglicization of the Gaelic, which means 'head of the loch by the kirk of Ciarán'), Campbeltown was renamed in the 17th century as ''Campbell's Town'' after Archibald Campbell ( Earl of Argyll) was granted the site in 1667. Campbeltown Town Hall was completed in 1760. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution opened Campbeltown Lifeboat Station in 1861. The present building dates from 1996. The electoral district of Campbell Town was a single-member electoral district of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. It centred on the towns of Campbell Town and Ross in the Midlands region of Tasmania between Hobart and Launceston. The seat was created ahead of the Assembly's first election held in 1856, and was abolished at the 1903 election, when it was merged with neighbouring Oatlands and the northern part of Glamorgan into the new district of Cambria. Campbelltown is an Amerindian village in the Potaro-Siparuni Region of Guyana, north of Mahdia. The village has been named after Stephen Campbell, the first Amerindian member of Parliament in Guyana. Overview Campbelltown is managed by the village Captain (Toshao), a Vice Captain and five councillors. This community has a population of about 300 persons, being Amerindians and mixed people of part Amerindian descent. Most residents of this village are members of the Patamona tribe, but the village has become mixed with Arawak and Carib tribes. There has been some degree of integration between the Amerindians and Afro-Guyanese and the Brazilian miners. Ardersier () is a small former fishing village in the Scottish Highlands on the Moray Firth near Fort George, between Inverness and Nairn. Its name may be an anglicisation of the Gaelic "Àird nan Saor", or "Headland of the joiners", one local legend being that carpenters working on the construction of ecclesiastical buildings on the other side of the Moray Firth were quartered here.. however, the name Ardersier is documented centuries before the Cathedrals of Fortrose and Elgin were built, and it is more likely that the name signifies its topography - a high prominence (New Statistical Account).
