''Black Shirt'' (Italian: ') is a 1933 Italian drama film directed by Giovacchino Forzano.Brunetta p.91 The film was made by the Istituto Luce as a propaganda work to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Mussolini's Fascist regime. It portrays events in Italy from the beginning of the First World War to the coming to power of Mussolini and the transformation of the country since. It combines elements of normal fiction films, documentary and futurist influences. The film '' The Old Guard'', released the following year, is also set in the period leading up to the March on Rome. Giovacchino Forzano
Giovacchino Forzano (; 19 November 1884 – 28 October 1970) was an Italian playwright, librettist, stage and film director. A resourceful writer, he authored numerous popular plays and produced opera librettos for most of the major Italian composers of the early twentieth century, including the librettos for Giacomo Puccini's ''Suor Angelica'' and ''Gianni Schicchi''.Julian Budden: "Giovacchino Forzano", ''Grove Music Online'' ed. The Old Guard (1934 Film)
''The Old Guard'' (Italian: ''Vecchia guardia'') is a 1934 Italian drama film directed by Alessandro Blasetti and starring Gianfranco Giachetti, Mino Doro, and Franco Brambilla. It was one several pro-Fascist films made by Blasetti during the era. The film is set in a small Italian town in 1922, where a local group of Fascist blackshirts battle against rival socialists who have called a strike at the hospital. Mario, the young son of Doctor Cardini, is killed in the fighting. The film ends with the March on Rome that brought Benito Mussolini to power. Loris Gizzi (16 August 1899 – 6 October 1986) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Life and career Born in Rome, after his university studies Gizzi attended a school of dance and singing. He abandoned the courses when he became an employee of Ferrovie dello Stato, reaching the rank of sub-station master. In the 1930s, he discovered his vocation as an actor, attending several dramatic societies. In 1935, during an outdoor show on the Palatine Hill in honor of royal guests, he was chosen to play Remus in the drama play ''Rumon''; from then he entered the most important stage companies of the time, notably appearing in the 1938 representation of ''Francesca da Rimini'' by Gabriele D'Annunzio, staged by Renato Simoni and with Andreina Pagnani in the title role.
