Camargo, Chuquisaca
Camargo is a small town in the Chuquisaca Department of Bolivia in the South American Andes. Location Camargo is the capital of Nor Cinti Province and is situated in ''Camargo Municipio'', embedded between north-southerly mountain ridges, at an elevation of 2,414 m, on the banks of ''Río Chico'' which later becomes Pilaya River, Río Pilaya. Camargo is located 350 km south of the department capital Sucre, along ''Ruta 1'', one of Bolivia's major roads which is 1,215 km long and goes from the Peruvian border in the north to the Argentina, Argentine border in the south. The Camargo family comes from here. Population The population of the town has increased by 50% over the past two decades, from 3,789 inhabitants (1992 census) to 4,502 (2001 census) and 5,685 (2008 estimation). Iberê Camargo
Iberê Bassani Camargo (18 November 1914, in Restinga Seca – 8 August 1994, in Porto Alegre) was a Brazilian painter, one of the greatest expressionist artists from his country. Shortly after his death, the Iberê Camargo Foundation was created by his widow, Maria Coussirat Camargo. Since 2008, the Foundation headquarters and museum is located in a building designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza. Thousands of paintings by Camargo are on display there. ''La Camargo'' is a 3-act opéra comique with music by Charles Lecocq and words by Eugène Leterrier and Albert Vanloo. It is a highly fictionalised story of two historical 18th-century characters, the dancer La Camargo and the bandit Louis Mandrin. The opera was first produced at the Théâtre de la Renaissance, Paris in 1878, and ran for 98 performances. Background Lecocq had written four operas for the Théâtre de la Renaissance between 1875 and 1878. The most successful of these, ''Le petit duc'', had run for 301 performances.Noël and Stoullig (1878), p. 412 ''La Camargo'' was commissioned to succeed it. ''Camargo'' (or ''La Camargo'') is a ''grand ballet'' in three acts and nine scenes, with choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Ludwig Minkus. The libretto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Marius Petipa is based on an incident in the life of the 18th-century dancer Marie Camargo, in which she and her sister Madeleine were abducted by the Comte de Melun in May 1728 and taken to his mansion. The ballet was first presented by the Imperial Ballet on December 7/19 ( Julian/Gregorian calendar dates), 1872 at the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Mozart Camargo Guarnieri (February 1, 1907 – January 13, 1993) was a Brazilian composer. Name Guarnieri was born in Tietê, São Paulo, and registered at birth as Mozart Guarnieri, but when he began a musical career, he decided his first name was too pretentious. Thus he adopted his mother's maiden name Camargo as a middle name, and thenceforth signed himself M. Camargo Guarnieri. In 1948, he legally changed his name to Mozart Camargo Guarnieri, but continued to sign only the initial of his first name. Guarnieri's Italian father, Michele Guarneri, a lover of classical music, named one of Camargo's brothers Rossine (a Portuguese misspelling of Rossini), and two others Verdi and Bellini. Sérgio De Camargo
Sérgio de Camargo (April 8, 1930 – 1990) was a sculptor and relief maker, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Sergio De Camargo studied at the Academia Altamira in Buenos Aires under Emilio Pettoruti and Lucio Fontana. Camargo also studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris. On a protracted trip through Europe in 1948, Camargo met Brâncuși, Arp, Henri Laurens and Georges Vantongerloo. Sérgio de Camargo showed work at numerous international exhibitions, including the 1965 São Paulo Biennale (where he won a gold medal), the 1966 Venice Biennale, and the 1968 documenta in Kassel. Sérgio de Camargo died in Rio de Janeiro in 1990. The Tate Gallery in London has one of de Camargo's work in their permanent collection. Sergio Andres Camargo Peñaranda (born August 16, 1994) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League. Marie Anne de Cupis de Camargo (15 April 1710 in Brussels – 28 April 1770 in Paris), sometimes known simply as La Camargo, was a French dancer. The first woman to execute the ''Glossary of ballet, entrechat quatre'', Camargo was also allegedly responsible for two innovations in ballet as she was one of the first dancers to wear slippers instead of heeled shoes, and, while there is no evidence that she was the first woman to wear the short calf-length ballet skirt, the now standardized ballet tights she did help to popularize these.
