''Callogobius'' is a genus of fish in the family Gobiidae found in brackish and marine waters of the Indian and Pacific Ocean. These small gobies are distinguished by ridges of papillae on their heads. Species The circumscription of the genus is unclear, but there are at least 41 species in the genus as it is currently known. Max Carl Wilhelm Weber
Max Carl Wilhelm Weber van Bosse or Max Wilhelm Carl Weber (5 December 1852 – 7 February 1937) was a German- Dutch zoologist and biogeographer. Weber studied at the University of Bonn, then at the Humboldt University in Berlin with the zoologist Eduard Carl von Martens (1831–1904). He obtained his doctorate in 1877. Weber taught at the University of Utrecht then participated in an expedition to the Barents Sea. He became Professor of Zoology, Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Amsterdam in 1883. In the same year he received naturalised Dutch citizenship. His discoveries as leader of the Siboga Expedition led him to conclude that Wallace's Line was placed too far to the west. His studies, along with others, led to a series of alternative lines to be proposed to delimit two major biogeographic realms, the Australasian realm and the Indomalayan realm. Solomon Markovitch Herzenstein
Solomon Markovich Herzenstein (; 1854 – August 7, 1894) was a Russian zoologist. Biography Herzenstein received a degree in natural sciences and mathematics from Saint Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg University and was appointed as the custodian of the Zoological Museum (Saint Petersburg), Zoological Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Imperial Academy of Science in 1879 or 1880. He also supervised practical training at the Bestuzhev Courses, University for Women. In 1880, 1884, and 1887, he was commissioned to travel to the Murman Coast of the Kola Peninsula to study the mollusks and fishes there. His work, "Materialy k Faunye Murmanskavo Berega i Byelavo Morya," which was published in the ''Trudy'' of the in 1885, became a standard reference. James Leonard Brierley Smith
James Leonard Brierley Smith (26 September 1897 – 8 January 1968) was a South African ichthyology, ichthyologist, organic chemist, and university professor. He was the first to identify a taxidermied fish as a coelacanth, at the time thought to be long extinct. Early life Born in Graaff-Reinet, 26 September 1897, Smith was the elder of two sons of Joseph Smith and his wife, Emily Ann Beck. Educated at country schools at Noupoort, De Aar, and Aliwal North, he finally Matriculation in South Africa, matriculated in 1914 from the Diocesan College, Rondebosch. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from the University of the Cape of Good Hope in 1916 and a Master of Science degree in chemistry at Stellenbosch University in 1918. Smith went to the United Kingdom, where he received his PhD at Cambridge University in 1922.
