California State Federation Of Labor
The California Labor Federation is a federation of labor unions in the U.S. state of California. It is an affiliate of the AFL–CIO. Founded in 1901 as the California State Federation of Labor, the CLF has grown to encompass over 1,300 unions representing 2,300,000 workers. South Bay Labor Council
The South Bay Labor Council, AFL–CIO (SBLC), is the labor council of Santa Clara and San Benito counties in California's Bay Area. The SBLC is affiliated with the AFL–CIO, one of the national labor confederations of the United States. The SBLC represents over 100,000 men and women of 101 unions in Silicon Valley. The progressive think-tank Working Partnerships, USA began as the policy arm of the SBLC, but has since separated and become an independent organization. The South Bay Labor Council runs one of the largest organizational campaign operations in Northern California. The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor (LACFL) is the central labor council for unions and worker organizations in Los Angeles County, California. The organization has its roots in the late 19th century when trade unions across the Los Angeles region formed labor councils for mutual aid, eventually affiliating with the American Federation of Labor in 1901. From the 1930s to the 1950s, unions affiliated with the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) participated in their own Industrial Union Council while unions affiliated with the AFL continued to work through the city-based central labor councils. Connie Leyva
Connie Leyva (born February 19, 1967) is a former American politician and union organizer, who now serves as the Executive Director of public radio and television station KVCR. She previously served as a member of the California State Senate in the 20th Senate District from 2014-2022. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Leyva was raised in Chino, California, where she attended public schools. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communicative disorders from the University of Redlands. Career Prior to being elected to the State Senate in 2014, she was president of the California Labor Federation. James Edward Hopkins
James Edward Hopkins (May 12, 1879 – March 19, 1939) was an American labor leader and politician who served one term in the California State Assembly for the 31st district from 1909 to 1911 and later as president of the California Labor Federation from 1936 to 1937. Biography Hopkins began his career as a Teamster, serving as a delegate to the San Francisco Labor Council. In 1908, he was elected to the California State Assembly on a Democratic- Union Labor-Independence League ticket. He did not stand for re-election in 1910. In 1910, Hopkins was made a Deputy Sheriff of San Francisco. On August 30, he accidentally shot and killed fellow Deputy Walter J. Bryant. He was arrested on murder charges, but was exonerated the next day after multiple witnesses came to his defense. Hopkins continued his career in organized labor after leaving the Assembly, joining the executive board of the state Federation of Labor in 1912.
