California Golden Bears Women's Gymnastics
The California Golden Bears women's gymnastics team represents the University of California, Berkeley and competes at the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Home meets are held in Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, California. History The Golden Bears women's gymnastics program first competed in 1976 in the AIAW under head coach Sue Williamson. Since women's gymnastics began as an NCAA sponsored sport in 1982, they have appeared in the NCAA tournament 29 times. In 2021, Maya Bordas won Cal's first individual title on the uneven bars. In 2022, Cal won a share of the regular season Pac-12 championship. They repeated the feat again in 2023. In 2024, Cal's last year in the Pac-12, they won the regular season Pac-12 championship outright. The LSU Tigers women's gymnastics team represents Louisiana State University in NCAA Division I (NCAA), Division I women's gymnastics. The team competes in the Southeastern Conference and is currently coached by Jay Clark (gymnastics), Jay Clark, who is coaching in his fifth season. Toni-Ann Williams
Toni-Ann Natasha Williams (born November 20, 1995) is a Jamaican American artistic gymnast that competed in college gymnastics for the Cal Bears women's gymnastics team. She has also been a member of the Jamaica national gymnastics team since 2010. She was the first gymnast to ever represent Jamaica in international competition. She is the inaugural Jamaican gymnast to compete in the Olympics, in 2016. Personal life Williams was born in Maryland on November 20, 1995, to parents, Tony and Marlene Williams. As her parents are both from Jamaica, Williams is eligible to compete for that country in FIG international competitions. Gymnastics At The 1976 Summer Olympics
At the 1976 Summer Olympics, fourteen different artistic gymnastics events were contested, eight for men and six for women. All events were held at the Montreal Forum in Montreal from July 18 through 23. For the first time in Olympic competition, countries were limited to having three gymnasts in the all-around competition and two gymnasts in each apparatus final. This was a controversial decision, which prevented many gymnasts of strong teams from competing in the finals. In addition, for the first time the number of countries allowed to bring full teams of six gymnasts and compete in the team competition was limited to twelve. Qualification The results of the team competition at the previous world championships determined which countries were allowed to bring teams; the top six countries in the team competition qualified for the Olympics. Karen Kelsall
Dr. Karen Kelsall (born December 11, 1962) is a Canadian chiropractor and a retired gymnast and dancer. She was the youngest competitor at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, and was one of the first Canadian gymnasts to attract attention from the international gymnastics community. Career Kelsall began gymnastics training at around the age of nine. Although born in Canada, she spent a significant portion of her gymnastics career training in the United States. Her mother, dissatisfied with her progress at a Vancouver gymnastics club, sent her to train under coach Dick Mulvihill in Oregon. Kelsall quickly advanced, eventually ranking in the top five by the Canadian Gymnastics Federation, despite previously not even being considered for the Olympic team. Parkettes National Gymnastics Training Center
Parkettes National Gymnastics Training Center, widely known as Parkettes, is a gymnastics club located in Allentown, Pennsylvania. It has produced several teams and individual gymnasts representing the United States, the Czech Republic, and Canada in international meets, including the Olympic Games. History 20th century Parkettes was founded by Bill Strauss and his wife, Donna Strauss. It started as a backyard after-school workout program at the Strauss home. Emjae Frazier (born January 29, 2004), frequently stylized as eMjae or éMjae, is an American artistic gymnast and a former member of the United States women's national artistic gymnastics team (2019–2022). She is currently competing in collegiate gymnastics for Florida, and previously for California. She is the younger sister of Margzetta Frazier. Early life Frazier was born in New Jersey in 2004. Lynx Gymnastics Aylesbury (formally Aylesbury Gymnastics) is a British artistic gymnastics academy located in Aylesbury. The club has produced several British women's national team members including Olympic, World and European medallists Jessica Gadirova, Jennifer Gadirova and Ondine Achampong. 2024 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Tournament
The 2024 NCAA women's gymnastics tournament was the 41st NCAA women's gymnastics tournament, the annual women's gymnastics championship contested by the teams of the member associations of NCAA. The first and second round and regional final were hosted on campuses from April 3 to April 7, 2024, while the semi-final and final were held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas from April 18 to April 20, 2024.
